This is Cricket one of the pasture horse at the new ranch. We were out exploring today and looked out into the pasture to see Cricket on top of this mound...horse or billy goat..LOL

Guess she wanted a better vantage point to see from.

A tiny, historic state park in Stevensville, Montana is the location

where this capture unfolded or, more accurately, it unfolded in a pasture on the way to Fort Owen State Park in the town of the same name. The historic site is surrounded by a large ranch in the Bitterroot Valley, a small piece of state property surrounded by private property, very much a rarity. A little gem of a place.

The park, only one acre in size, is named for Fort Owen,

a mission and later a trading post established in 1841 and named for trader, John Owen. Being one of the first permanent establishments in this section of the Bitterroot Valley in the mid- nineteenth century, Fort Owen is known as the "cradle of Montana civilization", as the nearby town of Stevensville is referred to as "the place where Montana began."

As to the horses, while heading out to run a few errands in town,

I spotted one of these three equines galloping solo through the snow as I was driving by, apparently, just for the fun of it. I would have liked to have captured that scene but, instead, too late for it, I had to settle for a pull-in and a short session with these handsome creatures just lounging and grazing about. No more galloping on this day.

For the record, those would be the foothills of the Sapphire Mountains in the background, the same range of mountains that make up the eastern boundary of the Bitterroot Valley.

The Bitterroot Mountains make up the western boundary. Study up. There could be a pop-quiz on Friday.

Mountain Komovi, Montenegro

Just getting close to an animal is a wonderful experience in itself, to look into their eyes and feel the connection... I love it!

Curious horses next to my mom's summer house, where we celebrated midsummer.

Two photos were merged into one and then I used the PS-filter "Solarize".

And the horses live in a farmhouse and are waiting for tourists to have fun with them.

This shot is from Iceland; the sight of horses is a constant feature if you drive around that remarkable Island.
