HLCX 8148, looking awfully tasty with its cab mounted K5LA, swings past Tower CK and into Goodview, where it will shove into the DM&E connection. From there the DME crew will take the train West towards Waseca on the former Ball & Bar.
December 30, 2008 was the first time I caught all three GP38s in their Springmaid Blue paint scheme. Here the crew are pulling cars from the CSX interchange in East Chester, South Carolina.
Empty stone train K911 rolls west around the curve in Jenison behind a clean former LMS C40-8W and an HLCX SD40-2. At the time, the new I-196 interchange with Chicago Drive was being built, which drastically changed the look of this location upon its completion. The remnants of the old M-21/Baldwin St grade crossing (in front of the 7924) were finally removed during this time as well. The crossing was somewhat famous among local fans due to the fact that it hosted the last wig wag in the area into the late 1980s.

HLCX 6073 & CSX 8142 lead grain train G433-29 at Port Vue, PA on a snowy December 30, 1997. I never did understand the use of odd number symbols on the Eastbound grain trains, but I caught a few that were always calling out symbols that seemed wrong for the direction they were going.
Sure would of been nice to seen 4 IANR units on this Cedar Rapids to Waterloo train today. We got some rare mileage as the job had to go out on the Dysart Line a couple times for work. This line was once a branch of the Rock Island that ran from Vinton to Estherville and points west. The Iowa Northern had it out to Dysart til 1994. Now days the line runs about 2 miles to this elevator and fertilizer plant.

Rolling south along ex-ACL trackage, USSC's Sebring Turn approaches Fisheating Creek with HLCX SD40R 6341 leading.
The Iowa Northern looked alittle rough thru the 90s. They got a bunch of junk right before the GP38s came on they got now. Back in 1997 the conductor give a good look at his train as they curve into Cedar Falls on the IC. This location has changed so much, I wasn't sure where it was at when I 1st looked at it. Elevator is long gone and ice cream place is now here. The train has potash train power trailing, that will go back to the UP at Manly.

Former Southern Pacific 8436 now HLCX 6341 seen running strong and hard as it lugs the heavy Q434 for the North Departure yard in Selkirk. This was a awesome golden hour soon as i took this shot the sun sank behind the hills

Missouri Pacific GP38-2 No. 2038 idles between assignments at North Yard in Salt Lake City, Utah on Aug. 28, 1985. It was built MP 887 by EMD in Jan. 1972. Today, it can be found in the Helm lease fleet as HLCX No. 1816.

The Grenada Railway under new ownership for nearly the past year, Rail USA has brought a more than patriotic and colorful hand painted scheme to their fleet on the GRYR. A former CR GP38-2 and a former BN SD40-2 acquired via Helm (HLCX) wear this new attractive corporate scheme on the GRYR's southbound train seen at Batesville, Mississippi on the morning of August 18, 2019.

Seems like that building has more, and larger graffiti every time I see it.
The train is headed to BNSF's Lindenwood Yard.
NBSR 6200, a former HLCX leaser rounds a curve along the NBSR's McAdam Subdivision, shortly after passing through the town of Grand Bay, New Brunswick. Dreary skies plagued me for most of the morning, but I decided to try and use it to my advantage. I tried to bring the skies out a little more in the photo while editing. I think it turned out relatively well, even though the shot is a little on the darker side.

During our Get-together in Folkston, L212 was the train that probably got the most attention. A short break was taken to capture CSX 8100 with an ex-SP, HLCX SD40-2R in tow: 6334.
Norfolk Southern train #198 (Birmingham, AL - Macon, GA) accelerates out of the gulch behind SD70 #2528, HLCX SD60 #5979, NS C40-9W #9054 & a GMTX SD60.

Built as Milwaukee Road SD40-2 #3026, Maine Central #609 (Pan Am) leads HLCX #7014 and train POED passed a loaded coal train with CN #2445 third out. Three locomotives that likely would never have met if it weren’t for the eclectic group of SD40’s Pan Am purchased, and the run through power agreement they have with Norfolk Southern. Most notable out of the three is the #609 which, in late 1975, was painted in Milwaukee Roads 1776 Centennial paint scheme and renumbered to MILW #156. After its long life and retirement on Pan Am, it was purchased by a private company and has been renumbered to BUGX #156. Possible centennial repaint in the future?

A U-SXRAGE5 work train holds down the Agency house track on a beautiful Saturday morning while a coal load thunders by on Main 2. I've never seen a train tucked away in here before, so it was a nice to get a new angle and even nicer to have three EMD products as subjects.
HLCX 6337 drops in to Edgerton with a unit grain train doing every bit of the Madison subdivision's 40 MPH authorized speed limit. If they're going to be in the consist, they might as well be leading. The 6337 has since been shipped off property and I'm guessing is done for if Watco is done with it. $7 a day it was to lease those things, what a steal.
