This male Wood Duck showed up at my pond...almost missed him... at first I thought he was a Mallard...upon closer inspection

viewed thru my camera I realized he was a stray Wood Duck!!! He stayed long enough that I was able to get lots and lots of pictures of him....some a wee bit too far, that's what the delete button is for, but he did manage to come close enough to where I was hiding ...in my bird blind so I was able to get some keepers!! The lighting wasn't the best, but I was pleased that the water was clear- that the algae hasn't taken over the pond water yet!!

Thanks for viewing, commenting on and/or faving this image as it is greatly appreciated!! Have a great weekend, stay safe and healthy!!💕😊

Today I gave him his first taste of broccoli :) Just a little, not too much ^__^

Watch him here :)

A really close-up portrait of a male mallard. I was lucky to catch him when he made eye contact with me.

Hi all !!

There you go, I worked on this photo. I love this character. My crazy little demon from the future. He still has his lover and robot ... still his conscience and dragon. And he still continues to do stupid things. Even though I struggle in the cyber world, I love taking pictures of this character more and more. Maybe I should give him a name ... I tried to do a "movement" on this picture... Hope you like it!

Story : "Come here !! You're mine. Only to me! Even if I have to fall to catch up with you. I will devour you. Because you are mine."

Thanks for watching and your support !! ♡

Hey, is this thing on?

I saw him dancing there by the record machine

I knew he must have been about seventeen

The beat was going strong

Playing my favorite song

I could tell it wouldn't be long 'til he was with me

Yeah, with me

I could tell it wouldn't be long 'til he was with me

Yeah, with me, singing

I love rock 'n' roll

So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

I love rock 'n' roll

So come and take the time, and dance with me, ow!

He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name

"But that don't matter," he said, "'cause it's all the same"

He said, "Can I take you home, where we can be alone?"

And next we were moving on, and he was with me

Yeah, with me

And we were moving on, and singing that same old song

Yeah, with me, singing

I love rock 'n' roll

So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

I love rock 'n' roll

So come and take the time, and dance with me, ow!

I love rock 'n' roll, yeah

'Cause it soothes my soul, yeah

I love rock 'n' roll

Yeah, yeah, yeah

I said, "Can I take you home, where we can be alone?"

And next we were moving on

And he was with me

Yeah, with me

And we were moving on

And singing that same old song

Yeah, with me, singing

I love rock 'n' roll

So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

I love rock 'n' roll

So come and take the time, and dance with me

I love rock 'n' roll (I love rock 'n' roll)

So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

So come and take the time, and dance with me (Dance with me)

I love rock 'n' roll (Rock 'n' roll)

So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

(I said) I love rock 'n' roll

(So dance with me)

So come and take the time, and dance with me (Dance with me, oh)

I love rock 'n' roll (Rock 'n' roll)

So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

I love rock 'n' roll

So come and take the time, and dance with me

I love rock 'n' roll

So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

I love rock 'n' roll

So come and take the time, and dance with me

Had a special encounter with this amazing Merlin yesterday. He let me spend 20 minutes with him. It was awesome!

I don't usually do much with my photos as far as removing things but wondering if I should remove the branch to his left that sticks up next to him?

Things are slowing down at the hospital. Fingers crossed we are going in the right direction. Hope to be back on Flickr and out shooting more often now!

On the far horizon, the setting sun.

Last beams of golden light search their way through the open window. A murmuring brook flows to the song of the birds outside. Wind gently brushes the cherry trees and carries the scent of flowers inside the quiet room. With a deep sigh he lifts his gaze from his graphic tablet, eying his work in a critical manner. Maybe it was time for a break? He turns towards u10. They've been quietly working side by side. It was a comfortable silence between them, that he rarely felt with others. A smile whisks over his face as he watches him.

A moment passes, before he gets up and disappears into the kitchen, only to return with a red fox cup, filled with fruit vinegar. He takes a seat on the edge of u10's pillow, gently he leaning onto him.

"Here.", he almost whispers, while passing the cup to him.

"Asahi-kun." A genuine smile spreads across u10's lips.

"Thank you.", he says accepting the cup. "We should take a break and stretch."

Asahi chuckles and thoughtfully he taps his chin with his index finger. "How about... would you like to watch a movie?"

"Hai!", u10 replies with a hearty laughter.

Set in beautifully landscaped parkland overlooking the River Forth, this fascinating laird’s house near Linlithgow has been the home of the Dalyells for over 400 years. The present house was built in 1612 by Thomas Dalyell, an Edinburgh merchant who made his fortune at the court of King James VI and I in London.

Thomas’s son, General Tam Dalyell, formed the legendary regiment of Royal Scots Greys. There are many mementos of him in the house, as well as colourful legends about his dealings with the Devil to discover.

The house contains an interesting collection of family portraits, furniture, porcelain and silver acquired over several generations.

Street Scenes No.4

Matthew 7: 6-8

6 Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. 7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

He thinks I can’t see him, he was wrong.

The Little Owl is not a native species, having been introduced to Britain in the 1870s, but it appears to have occupied a vacant niche without having any detrimental impact on other species. Numbers and breeding distribution increased gradually, reaching an estimated breeding population of between 4,000 and 8,500 pairs at the time of Project Barn Owl. The current distribution extends across England, north to the Scottish borders and west into Wales, where it is largely confined to Anglesey and to eastern parts of the country. There have been very few records from Ireland.

Pairs remain on their breeding territories throughout the year, with territorial calling evident during autumn – when young birds are searching for breeding territories – and again during spring. Small cavities are favoured for breeding, these often located within hedgerow trees or the walls of old agricultural buildings. Favoured nesting chambers tend to be located some distance from the cavity entrance and with little daylight reaching them. The male will often perch close to the nest cavity while his mate is incubating her clutch of eggs.

Little Owls often hunt from a perch, taking small mammals and large invertebrates, including earthworms, cockchafers and other beetles. There is evidence to suggest that breeding success is linked to the availability of small mammals, though some pairs evidently do well on other prey; a pair breeding on the island of Skomer, for example, took a large number of Storm Petrels (Courtesy BTO).

The kingfishers are indeed back in the small river at the bottom of my garden. After the female met the day before, here is the visit of a male. His frightened attitude is due to the arrival of the female who will hunt him without care. It’s obviously her territory and she intends to defend it well.

I must say, I was shocked when I saw how nighttime changes an owl's face. While they become fearsome predators at night, they also become much more adorable to us humans, who have evolved to perceive large eyes as captivating and innocent.

In an effort to find area barred owls, I set out to a local park before sunrise and came upon this Eastern Screech Owl (Megascops asio) in the dark. This darkness was so inky and thick, in fact, that I could not see if he was in his hole or not, so trained my tripoded camera on the hole, manually focused, and finally saw him in the preview window! Shocked for sure by those massive pupils staring down at me, a frog (which he swallowed greedily prior to this photo and while I watched) in his talons!

Interestingly, owl eyeballs are not balls at all, but so well evolved for night vision that they have elongated into eye cones. For this reason, they cannot move their eyes in their sockets, and have evolved wildly-flexible necks. With their highly acute retinas replete with rods (the light and movement sensing eye bits), there wasn't much room for cones, and so most owls see limited or no color!

For me, this capture of the Belted Kingfisher is as good as it gets. Unless I want to spend tons of money on a longer lens and spend hours tracking this bird, I doubt I will get a better capture of the local Kingfisher anytime soon. I wish the branch was not in the way. However, I am pleased at how clear his markings are in this shot. Soon the leaves will be out in full and he will be even more hidden. I’ll still keep watching for him. Happy Wing Wednesday.

DSC03335. Took his photo similarly many years back, more than ten years (exactly on September 1, 2012), it was very good to see him doing very well.

On behalf of the Working Towards a Better World administration I would like to make a tribute to Mr Happy Face who has been on our administration and helped us so much. I’d like to dedicate this shot to a good friend of mine William McIntosh. I have spent the last 4 months shooting as much as I can with Bill and trying to gleen info from him about his weather prediction skills and gain some insight about his frame of mind about photography. He is a master of weather prediction IMHO and I have always admired his tenacity which has netted him some absolutely fantastic captures from Yosemite National Park and the Pacific Northwest. Bill contacted me during the week to see if I was up for a Banzai run to Yosemite Valley as he was predicting a passage in the storm which would provide a high probability of misty/snowy conditions like seen in many of his postings from there. Of course Bill was right on the money as was shown from some of the webcams provided there. But unfortunately I had to decline as I was starting to get sick with the Flu and didn’t want to drag him down with me. Today he contacted me again to see if I was up for some shooting at Corona Del Mar but I was still trying to fight off the Flu and as painful as it was had to opt out again. Later, today, as I was digging through my folder of processed photos I found this shot and the pain of declination returned. Sorry Bill, I was more worried about getting you sick then worsening my own condition. LOL. Thanks for the invite my friend and hope you had a great day at CDM. If you would like to see William’s amazing photography, you can visit his stream here.

Tale of the Take…

This is a side view of the arch found at Corona Del Mar, If you wanted to get a full view through the arch you would need to scramble along the cliffsides base there at a specific tide level, I say specific because if you time it incorrectly you wouldn’t drown but you would have to spend a long, cold night on the rocks or call the Coast Guard to come “fish” you out which carries along an $800 dollar or better rescue charge. I’m still hoping that Bill will show me the specifics of entering here at a time that would be safe to enter and exit during the sunset. See what I mean about his tenacity. :)

Please come over and check out my other photos, you might find something else you like. :)

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great weekend everybody!! :)

Breeding males are stunning bright yellow with a black back and red head. Females and immature males are duller, sometimes mostly grayish with just faint yellow on the face and undertail coverts. Always note two white wingbars and pale bill. Breeds mainly in coniferous or mixed forests at middle or high elevations. Winters as far south as Central America, where it can be found in any forested habitat. Often stays high in the canopy. Listen for male’s burry song in the spring and summer and short, rising rattle year-round. (eBird)

-------------

A surprise visit to Ottawa this past winter, this male Western Tanager found a home in some woods near downtown Ottawa. The Ottawa Field Naturalists Club went into action and worked with local residents to allow this rare visitor to be seen and admired by the birders and photographers of not just Ottawa but many other eastern Canada and US locations. Food was provided by the club, much to the joy of the tanager and all the other birds and animals in the area. It took us four visits and many hours standing in the snow and ice to finally see him, but as you can see, we finally got really good views. Sadly, just as we were expecting him to return home, he came to an untimely end - not because of the weather, but because of a window strike at the same house where he had originally been discovered. Considering that the house was well away from the feeders, we suspect he had been chased by a raptor. The entire birding community went into mourning for this beautiful and rare visitor to our cold and snowy winter.
