Sgwd Rhyd Yr Hesg (Melincourt Falls in English) very picturesque set of waterfalls near Resolven in the Vale of Neath in South Wales. They are formed by the brook plunging 80 feet over a resistant band of 'Lower Pennant Sandstone'.
They are a few miles to the South West of the main 'Waterfall Country' around Pontneddfechan, but if you are down that way, I would recommend making the detour.
The impressive Sgwd Rhyd Yr Hesg (also known as Melincourt Falls) is an 80 foot (24 metre) single drop falls on the Rhaeadr Melin y Cwrt where it crashes over a resistant band of Lower Pennant Sandstone. The Rhaeadr Melin y Cwrt is a tributory of the Afon Nedd. As is often the case, these falls are at the best after rain. These falls are a few miles further on towards Swansea from the main area of waterfalls in the Neath Valley around Pontneddfechan, and are well worth the detour.
