He sat on a log intently staring into the leaves on the right. What, if anything, he saw, I could not determine.
It is haying season in my part of the world. This was taken a few years ago. The barn has since been torn down. A shame if you ask me. The background texture is Texture - 314 by Lenabem Anna.
Norman thought he was hilarious by using the orange slices for eyes....Noreen was just hoping that he didn't squirt his sticky juice all over her....again!

He was born 30 December 1869 at Swanmore, county of Hampshire, England.
In 1876 he emigrated to Canada with his family and settled on a farm near the hamlet of Egypt, south of Sibbald Point on Lake Simcoe.
Leacock was educated at Upper Canada College, Toronto. He completed a degree in modern languages at the University of Toronto in 1891.
Inspired by Thorstein Veblen’s The Theory of the Leisure Class, he enrolled at the University of Chicago, receiving a Ph.D. in political economy and political science under Veblen in 1903.
This is one of the two Western Bluebird fledglings that hatched in my backyard this spring. He’s fluttering his wings while waiting for dad to arrive with a tasty morsel.
Western Bluebirds are small thrushes that usually perch upright. They are stocky with thin, straight bills and fairly short tails.
Male Western Bluebirds are shiny blue above with rust-orange extending from a vest on the breast onto the upper back. Females are gray-buff with a pale orange wash on the breast and blue tints to the wings and tail. The throat is blue in males and gray-buff in females, and the lower belly is whitish.
These birds are highly social, and usually feed in flocks during the non-breeding season. They hunt for terrestrial insects by dropping to the ground from a low perch. Western Bluebirds also frequently feed on berries in trees. Western Bluebirds rely on trees both for nesting cavities and hunting perches, and also perch on fences and utility lines.

All the critters were on hawk watch this morning as a Cooper's hawk was hanging out at the feeders today. This little red squirrel had a good hiding spot.

He fine tunes the Grand Piano while waiting with anticipation on her arrival
Getting a glimpse from the corner of his eye, gazes over his shoulder and across the floor as she graces the stairs with elegance entering through the grand entrance lobby

For years I have wanted to see a Kirtland's Warbler. Finally, here he is!
Kirtland Warblers are on the Endangered Species List, but because of aggressive conservation efforts the estimated population of 200 birds in the 1980s has grown to about 5000 birds today.
This beauty in full song was seen in an 8-9 year old, planted Jack Pine forest in Crawford County, Michigan.

*actually... the truth is that I created this this for Halloween..but got so busy in RL I didn't post it...so better late than never I guess?
But it was fun to do. Hope you like it.. and sorry for the blood and gore..but hope it looks more 'Scooby Doo' than anything too scary.
