I tried to position myself at the breaking zone on the front stretch where they began braking and downshifting. Was hoping for some shots with a few flames coming out of the exhaust but I really wasn't seeing much.

At any rate, I found a section of the fence that was not as fortified as the majority of the fence around the front stretch, which is why I'm a little behind the car.

To my surprise, 200mm was able to get me pretty close without the need for much cropping. Only snipped a bit off the front to even out the shot. More was lost going from 4:3 to 16:9. Image is still 5800px wide so plenty of pixels to play with if I wanted to.

The GTD cars were hitting around 170-180 before the brake zone. Knowing how much fence I had to shoot through and how big the reinforcements were, I felt a shallow DOF and relatively slow shutter speed (for those speeds) would get me a pretty clean shot of the car. I'm moderately satisfied with it.

Hike to Ingalls Pass, Headlight Basin, and Ingalls Lake. The larch trees were displaying their golden needles and the mountain goats were plentiful. The trail was crowded even on a weekday. 20221012_135532

Completed in 1932 for just over $200,000, the concrete span of Bixby Creek Bridge, one of the highest bridges of its kind in the world, soars 260 feet above the bottom of a steep canyon carved by Bixby Creek. One look at the canyon’s steep and crumbling cliffs, and it’s obvious that building the bridge wasn’t exactly a cakewalk. First, a massive wooden framework had to be built, with materials brought by truck on what was then a narrow, one-way road riddled with hairpin turns. A staggering 45,000 individual sacks of cement had to be hauled up the framework—and this is before advanced heavy machinery could help do the lifting. Each bag was transported via a system of platforms and slings suspended by cables 300 feet above the creek.

Curiously, the span was completed before the road, and it would be five more years before the route linking Carmel (about 15 miles to the north) to San Luis Obispo would even be opened.

This is a photo of reflections on the front fender and hood of a car. Don't know how I got two headlights--lucky shot.

Weekly Alphabet Challenge - H is for Headlights

Fortunately for me, I live just a few minutes walk from the main road through Bexhill :)

I had the chance to visit Portland headlight during my trip to Old Orchard Beach. I had only one evening to shoot the lighthouse so I was hoping there would be some nice clouds, it turned out not so bad and 2 planes were kind enough to leave a trail in the sky to add some texture.

A revisit to a local scrapyard that had loads of barn finds and salvage vehicles. Due to the council and environmental changes, a lot of the stuff had to be removed but there were some bits n pieces left in the buildings.

2023 Weekly Alphabet Challenge - H is for Headlights

After a long time waiting for the headlight and number boards to be turned on, Nickel Plate 190 sits for her nightshots. There must be 30000 images of this scene sitting on memory cards and hard drives across the country at this moment.

8/52 for the group 2023 Weekly Alphabet Challenge

This week's theme was: H is for Headlights

Taken with my phone this morning on returning from the weekly shopping trip. This came out much more interesting than I expected. Modern headlights have all sorts of shiny and reflective things inside. The red is the reflection of the garage door and the blue is probably my coat. You can also see a bit of sky and our garden (upside down).
