En el marco de la celebración del 25 aniversario del Protocolo de Montreal para la protección de la Capa de Ozono, México destaca en el cumplimiento de sus compromisos ante este tratado internacional al ser la única nación en haber alcanzado sus objetivos cuatro años antes del periodo establecido, señaló el Secretario de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, Juan José Guerra Abud, y sostuvo que ahora el reto será la eliminación de los hidroclorofluorocarbonos (HCFC), por tener un alto potencial de calentamiento global, y cuyo consumo se reducirá por lo menos en un 30 por ciento durante el presente sexenio.
