“….I’m so lonesome I could cry,”

Hank Williams

Why can't I free your doubtful mind

And melt your cold, cold heart...

The snake shown here (with a bit of blue tint added for effect) is an Aruba Island Rattlesnake, a venomous pitviper species found only on the Caribbean island of Aruba, off the coast of Venezuela. These animals are critically endangered, and are the subject of cooperative zoo breeding programs. This one was photographed at the Detroit Zoo.

Spontaneous street portrait taken in Glasgow, Scotland. I went for the candid shot but he reacted so quickly with this pose that I was completely denied! Clearly he loves Hank Williams so I searched for a song title by him to suit the title of the shot - enjoy!

We remain snow and frost free here this winter, but I thought I should at least post something wintery. I am sorry that this is too late for you to use (with caution) on Valentine's Day.

It is interesting how the frost does not form on the leaf veins. This allows us to continue seeing their structure.

COLD, COLD HEART is a fine old song which has had several lives over many decades. Originally it was a twangy, weepy 1951 country & western song by Hank Williams. It was one of my South Carolina born dad's favorites. Here is a link:

My favorite is a million musical miles away from Hank's original. It is Norah Jones' sultry blues-swing version from her 2002 album, Come Away With Me. If you have never heard Norah sing it, I think you should. Here you go:

NB - I took this in 2005 with my first (!!) digital camera, a 2003 Minolta (later Canon) Digital Ixus 50. Not a bad capture for 17 year old tech.

Location: Village of Rührberg, B-W, Germany.

In my album: Dan's Leafscapes.

and narrow's the way

now i have traded the wrong for the right

praise the lord, i saw the light

I saw the light I saw the light

No more darkness no more night

Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight

Praise the Lord I saw the light...

I wandered around the property of The Blue Swallow Motel in the afternoon light admiring the old vehicles and glanced at the glass block lighthouse thinking how cool it would be if it lit up at night...well, I was pleasantly surprised when I returned that night...

Most of the time these guys will swallow their prey quickly, and even before they surface from their dive in many cases. So you've got to be quick to capture them with something in their mouth!

or

Something big enough, pointy or odd enough

that they have to think about how to swallow it.

or

if it were a crawfish, it might be takin' it to ma cher amio.

Too bad it was'nt a crawfish,

because I so badly wanted to title this pic "Crawfish Pie"!

Maybe next time . . .

Byward Market, Ottawa. November 2019

there is a neon JESUS here

dressed like an electric Hank Williams

picking out Bob Dylan on the juke box

trucker cap patrons make fun of his long hair

Jesus smiles when he hears the prayers of Elvis

patrons spit bud light on the bar

"uh oh, I know , I know what I have done"

cries the fat one

jesus says 'there ain't no God, I ain't no son

"you've got a lot of nerve" barks the JUKE

'you betcha' says Jesus

the barmaid asks for a percocet or a vicodin

way out back little Richard is putting on eye liner

robert Johnson tunes his guitar

the devil takes note and offers him a deal

and that's how we got rock n roll

with a pop art kiss

and Kurt Cobain shoots smack and complains of a bellyache

Jesus is tired and ready to go and ready for a breakfast burrito

then a needle drops on Lou Reed's velvet underground (and by some miracle the closet mix too!!!)

"jesus help me find my proper place"

Jesus finishes his beer

and says

"anything for you, Lou"

Hey, hey, good lookin',

Whatcha got cookin'?

How's about cookin' somethin' up with me?

Hey, sweet baby,

Don't you think maybe

We could find us a brand new recipe?

I got a hot-rod Ford and a two-dollar bill

And I know a spot right over the hill.

There's soda pop and the dancin's free,

So if you wanna have fun come along with me.

Hey, good lookin',

Whatcha got cookin'?

How's about cookin' somethin' up with me?

Easier to hear than see. This lonesome whip-poor-will is sleeping inside the gates of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Great spot by Ryan Salsman. Baltimore City, Maryland.

I love this shot, there is like a Caravaggio light in it that make it special to my eyes...

Hope you are all having a great summer, here is incredibly hot and I feel like fainting on bed any second!!!! :))))

Are you sure Hank done it this way?

Spent ages today trying to sort out the audio dropouts on my main audio PC - updated drivers, BIOS - all sorts. Didn't fix it, but at least the computer is Windows 11 ready - at the time of writing, the computer is on its third hour of updating...

I recorded 3/7 on the Mac, the backup audio option.
