On a cool October Morning Wisconsin & Southern’s L599 rips out of Iron Ridge, WI at a good clip. Aimed at Hartford, the crew will work Menasha Packaging before moving on to Hanke in Slinger. Once those customers are switched they will slip over the Canadian National and head to the interchange at Ackerville.

Hanke's channel, The first river crossing leading to Martel's chamber, the largest single chamber in Europe.

Well tenured engineer and conductor Robert Hasheider reverses the switch at Hanke in Reedsburg, Wisconsin on a sweltering hot July 4th, 2018. Robert keeps his attire pretty old school, denim all 365 days of the year accompanied by a straw hat to keep the sun off his face. Robert is one of the few OG WSOR employees, with a hire date of 7-1999 and has maintained the knowledge of a sharp conductor to this day.

Martel Chamber, found at the end of the Hanke Canal in Škocjan Caves is one of Europes largest cave chambers. Here a view from the sump end of the chamber. 4 cavers use several high powered strobes and flash bulbs to illuminate what would otherwise be complete darkness.

After failing to gain access last year because of water levels, this year the team finally managed the river crossings to visit and 3D scan this magnificent chamber.

Soon the data will be crunched and at last we will have an exact size and volume.....watch this space!

Looking somewhat like a scene from a model railroad, a trio of Wisconsin Southern geeps switch out the Hanke Trucking spur at Ackerville. After the move shown here the 599 job will exchange cars with the CN below.

Nice to see that our European neighbours are finally visiting us again - I've missed you.

The Old Manse (269 Monument Street) is a 1770 farmhouse built for the Rev. William Emerson, Concord's town minister, and was witness to the battle between American Minutemen and British Regulars on April 18, 1775. It remained in the Emerson-Ripley family until 1939, when it became a property of the Trustees of Reservations.
