However, high-density minefields such as this one are a top priority when located close to villages or livelihood activities because people crossing the minefield face a far greater risk of initiating a mine than on low-density sites.

HALO Cambodia uses a helicopter for casualty evacuation in the event of medical emergencies. Minefield staff practice casualty evacuations monthly and all demining sites have a helicopter landing pad as well as an ambulance on standby

HALO has cleared thousands of farmers' fields since beginning operations in Cambodia in 1992, work that has hugely benefitted the local economy and improved nutrition of farming families, for whom the land is their only source of good and income.
