As the halfway point between New Zealand's two largest cities, you can drive inland from almost anywhere in the North island and you’ll end up in Ruapehu. At the southern end of Lake Taupō and in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, Ruapehu is halfway between Auckland and Wellington just a 4 hour drive from either city.
An old favorite spiffed up a bit. This was one of the first photos I was halfway happy with when I ventured away from 35mm to digital. Unfortunately I had the camera set for low resolution and there isn't much of a file to work with. I don't normally do much alteration to my photos, besides bright/contrast and a little color correction. What you see is what you get for the most part, but I'm fooling around with a few oldies to improve my rather mediocre Photoshop skills.
Not much left on this old truck but stands proudly adorning the end of autumn ready for winter.
Happy Truck Thursday!

The Bridge
By Shel Silverstein
This bridge will only take you halfway there
To those mysterious lands you long to see:
Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs
And moonlit woods where unicorns run free.
So come and walk awhile with me and share
The twisting trails and wondrous worlds I've known.
But this bridge will only take you halfway there-
The last few steps you'll have to take alone.
The statue of Imre Nagy standing
on a small bridge looking towards the parliament building. Imre Nagy was a communist and the Prime Minister of
Hungary on two occasions. His second term ended when
his non-Soviet backed government was brought down
during the failed Hungarian revolution of 1956. He was
the victim of a show trial and in was executed in 1958
and buried in an unmarked grave. It was forbidden to
mention his name during Communist times, but he
became a symbol of freedom for the Hungarian people.
In 1989, he was exhumed and reburied with honors. On
the statue, Imre Nagy is halfway across the bridge,
symbolic of his getting Hungary halfway to freedom.
somewhere halfway our walk we had this wonderful view over the first mills of Kinderdijk and the harbour where the boats were peacefully waiting until the owners would awake and take them for a tour

Walking around Edinburgh sometimes makes me feel as if I am in a fairytale and sometimes as if I’m in a Dickens novel with the flights of stone steps leading up through narrow passageways. And in strategic spots so many down-and-outs hopefully hold out their empty cups.
Halfway up Buachaille Etive Mor. In the centre you can just make out the River Coupall and the cottage at Altnafeadh seen in my last post. Ben Nevis is hiding in the cloud (top left).
Getting towards the top of the Dragon Crest and this view opens up to the north of Krabi. Note the Karst scenery with the unique;y shaped limestone mountains

Passing the ECML Halfway sign, LNER Azuma 800108 speeds north pretty much halfway between London and Edinburgh with 1W20 the 14:00 London Kings Cross to Aberdeen.
An image was taken on my recent visit and YouTube video from the ECML taking in the old LNER milepost signs, the 200 miles to Edinburgh and this the Halfway sign.
