Continuing the lighthouse theme, this is the beautiful lighthouse at Happisburgh. Standing tall, a beacon of light for those venturing out to sea.

With coastal erosion I'm not sure how long this beauty will survive, at least in it's present position

We visited back in 2015, shortly after many houses had plummeted into the sea, years of peoples possessions strewn down the cliffside.

Sadly I read recently the erosion continues and many others risk losing everything

Ceiling painting by Alex Janvier, Canadian Museum of History – Gatineau, Québec

"At the river end of the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of Civilization is a dome rising seven stories above the granite floor. Nineteen metres (62 feet) in diameter, the dome is adorned with the striking abstract painting Morning Star, the work of Dene Suline artist Alex Janvier. With the assistance of his son Dean, Janvier began painting in June 1993 and finished in September the same year. Morning Star covers 418 square metres (4,500 square feet)."

Brockton Point Light Station

Stanley Park

Vancouver, B.C.

Canada

A Stanley Park showpiece.

A number of ship collisions in the waters around the point led to the construction of a lighthouse and signaling station at Brockton Point. For a time, Brockton Point had a lighthouse keeper, who served for 25 years starting in 1855 and is credited for having saved 16 people from drowning. The present day lighthouse tower with an automatic light was built in 1914. It was designed by Thomas Hayton Mawson, who also constructed the lifeboat house located below the point and other Stanley Park landmarks.

Ferryland Lighthouse Trail

I have a real fascination for Lighthouses, maybe because we don' t have any in Missouri. :-) This glass is above the Point No Point Lighthouse.

I couldn't find a place to stand to get rid of the grounding strap, a bit annoying, but there it is...

This Christmas, whatever your beliefs, I sincerely hope we all find a guiding light to help us see through the turbulence of everyday life to find peace, happiness, and compassion.

Barges Lighthouse 🌊✨ – Vendée, Les Sables d’Olonne 🇫🇷

The Barges Lighthouse, built upon the dangerous Grande-Barge plateau ⚓, stands 2,100 metres offshore from Les Sables d’Olonne. Its slightly conical tower 🏯, built of granite, rises to 31.30 m (103 ft) and has protected sailors since it was first lit 🔥 on October 14, 1861.

Founded on rocks exposed to the ocean’s fury ️🌊, its construction required protective dikes. Designed by engineer Charles Marin 👷♂️, it has a focal plane at 27.66 m (91 ft) with walls 1.5 m (5 ft) thick at the base, serving as a model for third-order lighthouses for half a century.

Modernised in 1971 ⚡ (automation via wind generator) and in 1994 ☀️ (solar panels), its light now has a range of 13.5 nautical miles (25 km). These upgrades reduced vibrations that once threatened its structure.

🔖 Listed as a historic monument in 2011, this jewel of maritime heritage embodies human tenacity 💪 against the elements. Its history reflects the technical and human challenges faced to secure navigation around these treacherous reefs.

🌌 Between air and water, a light watches over.

Rising from the swell 🌊, the Barges Lighthouse emerges from a deep blue – that of the ever-moving Atlantic 🌊 and the stretching sky ☁️. Water and air merge here, carried by the breath of a world without shores.

At its summit, a flame: the lighthouse’s fire 🔥, still and faithful, shines silently 🌙. It guides, warns, and recalls the invisible presence of lands – absent from the frame, yet engraved in every spray.

✨ Here, strength is born from the invisible.

From what supports without being seen.

The lighthouse stands firm – at the heart of turmoil, in a sacred alliance between the elements.

Brockton Point Lightstation

Stanley Park

Vancouver, B.C.

Canada

The present Brockton Point Lighthouse was built in 1914, but the story of the light on the point begins in 1890.

The light was first established at the location in 1890. A square tower, painted white with a red horizontal stripe, was built in 1914. The lighthouse was designed by William P. Anderson and has a red lantern and an arched base with a walkway underneath.

In 1914, the current tower, with an automatic light and 12.5 meter focal plane was constructed with arches allowing visitors to pass along the shoreline pathway. The lighthouse would be manned by four additional keepers until the station was destaffed in 1956.

A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and to serve as a navigational aid for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways

The historic Sullivan Island Lighthouse was the last lighthouse built by federal government. It was constructed in 1962 to help ships navigate Charleston Harbor. Its light can be seen for 27 miles...

Life is a journey defined by motion and moments of stillness, each equally important in shaping who we are. Like the steady turn of bicycle wheels, life moves forward through our efforts and choices, urging us to explore, grow, and embrace the unknown. Yet, true fulfillment often lies not in the speed or distance of our progress but in the moments when we pause to reflect, breathe, and appreciate the beauty of the world around us. These pauses teach us that the journey is as meaningful as the destination, filled with fleeting yet profound experiences that leave lasting imprints on our hearts.

Guidance is another quiet, constant presence in life. Like a beacon of light cutting through the fog, our values, dreams, and relationships guide us when the path ahead seems uncertain. Trusting these inner lights helps us find clarity and direction, even during life's stormiest chapters. And as the waves of time ripple past, we're reminded of the power of balance—of moving forward with intention while remaining grounded in the present. In that harmony lies the essence of life: a journey illuminated by purpose, enriched by connection, and made extraordinary by the simple act of cherishing the moments that make us whole.

We witnessed some dramatic light and stunning views in the Faroe Islands. This is a road along the coast of Bordoy island with the cliffs of Vidoy rising steeply on the other side of Hvannasund. The sky may burn, the sea may rise,

Storms may call and winds may cry.

Yet here I stand, unshaken stone,

A watchman set to stand alone.

I do not drift, I do not flee,

The waves break, but they don’t break me.

Ships may falter, time may wear,

But I remain—I’m always there.

I see the longing, hear the call,

But I won’t chase—I won’t withdraw.

The tide may turn, the world may change,

Yet here I stay, through calm or rage.

For love may fade, for paths may stray,

But I do not leave, I do not sway.

I am the light, the steady glare—

I’m not going anywhere.

The rotating beacon of the Heceta Head Lighthouse, Oregon coast. Built in 1892, it is considered by many to be the most beautiful lighthouse on the western U.S. coast. It’s beam has a range of 21 nautical miles (39 km; 24 mi).

BTW, those two large “stars” near the horizon are Venus and Jupiter — a very close alignment or conjunction (July 3 @ 11:30pm). Venus is the brighter of the two (because it is much closer to the Sun and the Earth), even though it is much smaller than Jupiter.

Image # 2,000 — this image is my 2,000th post on Flickr :)

Exposure TIP: When I posted this yesterday on Instagram, one person asked, “Composite shot to get the light beams like that, Royce, or you have some magic trick?” My answer: All eight beams are there. They rotate together. The shutter speed time determines the width of the beams - too short and the beams are very narrow (not as graphic). Too long and they all connect and blend together (3 to 4 seconds worked best for this lighthouse). F-stop and ISO determine the strength or brightness of the beams.

I did make one underexposure (1 sec, f/2.8, ISO 200) of the lighthouse in order to get some detail in the glass panels. I then copied and pasted just that area onto the final image (via Photoshop layers @ 30% opacity). Without this composite addition, there would be no detail in that very bright area of the lighthouse.

Amber sunset shedding its last light

Through rolling mist and salted air,

A single light calls out the lost.

Its golden glow, a whispered prayer,

It guards the tides and shifting shoals.

A beacon strong, a steadfast tale,

Forever watching out for lost souls.
