Found this little guy foraging for nectar around some flowers that hadn't even opened up yet. Looks like it will be good weather for the bees this year. We didn't see many of them last year.

Columbina talpacoti rufipennis

(Ruddy Ground Dove / Tortolita)

The Ruddy Ground Dove (Columbina talpacoti rufipennis) is a small New World tropical dove. It is found from S.E. Mexico to Colombia and Venezuela. Adult males have a pale grey head and neck, and rich rufous upperparts, black-spotted on the wing coverts. The female is grey-brown rather than rufous, and has less contrast between head and body than the male.

Ground level is not as powerful as from the upper floors - but still a good view

This is what I see most of the time in my area. Even if I walk over the ground wave to get a better view of some kind of valley, I will only end up standing in front of yet another ground wave.

Wild South Africa

Kruger National Park

The number of Southern Ground-Hornbills outside formally protected areas in South Africa is declining due to loss and transformation of habitat, poisoning, persecution and electrocution. The species is listed as globally Vulnerable and have been uplisted to Endangered in 2014 in South Africa.

It is the largest hornbill species in the world.

July 2019 - Edited and uploaded 2022/05/05

instead of going in the afternoon, i went to my spot early morning due to bad weather prediction.

I took this one with the 50mm f/1.4 and had a lot of fun with this tiny lens :-)

Most of the mushrooms were lying upside down. I guess playing kids had a lot of fun destroying these beauties...

Thanks everyone for visiting my stream.

This was as full a shot as I got when this buzzard (buteo buteo) landed amongst the heather. Photographed near Llandrillo, Denbighshire, Wales

This place is where early Mormons settled. It's no wonder why they chose these spots; they are splendid!

Doves in general aren’t one of my favored birds mostly because they tend to be bullies at the backyard feeders. However, ground doves aren’t common in the places I go to so I decided to document this one.

This species is endemic to South Africa (and the small nations of Lesotho and Swaziland) where it is found on cool rocky slopes of mountainous regions. As the name implies, it spends its time on the ground as its habitat is devoid of trees. Sani Pass, Lesotho

There were several different “rodents” running around in the fields out west. The beauty of camping along the way is that you get better opportunities to capture the wildlife around you. It was also spring when we travelled which meant lots of young life around. This Prairie Dog mom is letting her young one nurse. These animals are cute and quite social but many farmers think they are a nuisance because of all the holes they dig.

The number of times I have cut off the dead flower clusters this summer, only to have them replaced by new ones, is extraordinary!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated.

On a recent walk, I saw many catkins on the ground, blown off the trees from the wind. I marvel at the beauty of these tiny flowers.

Continuing the small critters/large critters occupying the same habitat series. Representing the smalls in Yellowstone National Park is this Uinta Ground Squirrel. It was chattering boldly atop a large boulder.

At this time of the year you find the lovely dandelion almost everywhere in nature. This grounded dandelion looked almost lost by the wayside. It felt like an Discovery !
