Gregory of Nin

was a medieval bishop of Nin who strongly opposed the pope and official circles of the Church and introduced the Croatian language in the religious services after the Great Assembly in 926, according to traditional Croatian historiography.

This is a front view of the Gregory home now in Torreya State Park in Bristol, FL. It was a misty rainy day when we were there and this image had a rather grey sky. I replaced it with a blue sky and some wispy clouds. It also had some blue tarp covering a chimney on the smaller building on the right. This building is supposed the represent the kitchen and dining room and is now the staffs office. In pictures of the original home the kitchen and dining room was in a building to the back of the house. That building was no longer there when they moved the house to its present location. In order to get rid of the blue tarp, I had to remove the chimney. I used Luminar to make the photo adjustments.

Happy Slider Sunday and I hope you all have a blessed day!

The obelisk was erected in 1739.

The monument is inscribed as follows:

To the Memory of Gregory Wale Esq, Justice of the Peace for this County. Deputy Lieutenant. County Treasurer. Conservator of the River Cam. He lived an advocate for liberty. A good subject. An agreeable companion, a faithful friend, an hospitable neighbour, and in all parts of life a useful member of society. He died June 5th 1739 in the 71st year of his age: universally lamented, and was buried in the parish church of Little Shelford. This obelisk was erected by his surviving friend James Church Esq as a public testimony of his regard to the memory of so worthy a gentleman.

Gregory Wale and James Church used to meet regularly at this place, and they agreed that when one of them died, the survivor should put up a monument to his friend's memory on the very spot where they so often met.

After the death of Gregory Wale, his granddaughter Margot Wale often used to walk up the mount and was very fond of it. At the latter end of her life she would lie at her window and watch her little hill and her friends and the country people got into the habit of calling it "Margot's Mount" and in later years this was corrupted to "Maggot's Mount".

"Lake Gregory"

In a typical wet season, water flows down the Sturt Creek in the Kimberly area of West Australia 350km south to Gregory Lake, which sits in between the Tanami desert and the Great Sandy Desert. When it fills the Lake becomes the most abundant bird habitat in Australia. Two years of failed wet season monsoons meant we arrived to a puddle and apart from plenty of Brolgas the bird life was as empty as the Lake itself. The little aboriginal community of Mulla has the IPA rangers headquarters, they issue permits and assistance visitors. The indigenous community has had native tittle here since 2001. They do a good job managing the Lake, but the farming side of the adjoining land has fallen into disrepair resulting in a massive population of feral animals: horses, camels as well as a smattering scrub cattle. This is about to change with many thousands of feral animals recently culled, new Boundary fences under construction, and training is now taking place to get the farming operational again.

Ph number for the rangers is

P.s. We enjoyed a few days exploring the area. The roads and tracks joining the Tanami road and the Canning stock route were in good 4WD condition with reasonable camping.

Artista: Gregory Crewdson (1962).

Gregory supported himself with a cane, standing on the southwest corner of the Monroe Street bridge. He greeted passersby with "God bless you". He's been homeless for six years. Right now he stays with a friend and sleeps in a sleeping bag on the floor. He'd like an air mattress to make things more comfortable. He's on disability, but needs housing. He didn't have a lot to say, but he was friendly and a pleasure to talk with.

A distinguishing feature of Mary Gregory glasswares is the stylized white enamel painting on the surface of a piece of colored glass. Subjects typically refer to the late 19th Century interest in pastoral landscape scenes and often feature young children. Children may be depicted alone or in groups of two or three children. The Mary Gregory imagery usually depicts a child in an outdoor setting, playing with a butterfly net or a hoop, frolicking with friends, or blowing bubbles. Often times, trees, streams, flowers, and foliage are prominent within the composition in the white enamel paint, too. This type of glass decoration developed from painted cameo glass produced in Europe circa 1870. [Website]
