Since the time I got a message from a flickr contact about a photo I posted a while back, asking if, was it also for the "Green Revolution" - the idea and the sentiment was stuck in my mind. I began to research a bit and read stuff about the current goings-on in Iran. Iran, ah Iran. "The big nuclear threat and menace". Well, you know, typical stuff that we gouge on off the media. BUT, IF, if we looked through and beyond all these, yes, we do realize there are people there. Real people. Real lives. People who would love to experience and share what you and I have in this world. Well, perhaps. I have never been to Iran so I can not say. I can only go by what I read... I can only go by what binds us all - as humans. And, coming from a country despotized for decades I can only understand...

 

But, still, this is for these people of Iran that I share this image. Again, real people. Real lives...

This robust little bristlecone - all two-feet of it - is something of a revolutionary. It may well have germinated early in the Industrial Revolution, and has thrived - high in its remote, rocky aerie - through the early decades of the Green Revolution. Normally, it would be reasonable to expect it could easily live another two or three thousand years - perhaps much more. Revolutions, however, are fraught. Powerful, strengthening, reverberations are poised to intersect its life-span at any time.

 

But, for the moment, it can be imagined to exemplify a certain type of universal youthful innocence and exuberance - pom-pom branchlets raised high as the sun drops neatly between two distant peaks, it seems to signal, “Score!”

 

If you happened to be sitting with this tree at such a moment, you might experience the tiniest twinge of... well...Hope. But, as only you would know, the game is far from over...

Lesser Black-backed Gull spending last days of summer in Finland before its long-distance migration to Equatorial Africa.

 

Half of the population, estimated 7 000 pairs are nesting in Finland. When I was a boy LBG was the most common gull around Baltic basin.

 

Thanks to the damned green revolution with its environmental poisons such as DDT, this beauty has become a seriously threatend rarity. Today people in Africa are pouring DDT to lakes and rivers to protect themselves against malaria. The result? Think it over.

 

In the so called civilized world use of DDT has been forbidden for decades. But, now the civilized world exports these poisons to developing world.

In Winter we grew alots of Wheat, Mustard, Garlic, Fennel, Vegetables, and Fresh Fodder for the animals. We Plant Sugercanes in the begining of summer time and its ready by the winter. With the sugarcane juice we make brown sugar and take the rest of the sugarcanes to the mill in order to make regular white sugar.

 

I participated in this mural action by painting, taking photos and video, time-lapse, and drone footage, editing it all into this video On Friday April 9 Wells Fargo's hundreds took over the streets in from of Wells Fargo World Headquarters. They painted a giant 250 foot mural street mural, which Read: WELLS FARGO: DEFUNCD INE & FOSSIL FUELS. FIRE: PROTECT FUTURE GENERATIONS. Then they marched to BlackRock headquarters and covered the office with red clay paint hand prints. Here is some more background info: PROTECT NEXT GENERATIONS SIGN PROJECT: Rows of (distanced) people vigiling will line the street, holding signs with the faces of the next generation in their lives (kids, grand kids, nieces/nephews, siblings, relatives, friends, yourself...). Bring a photo of a young person/s in your life (8 12/x11 landscape/horizontal format) and we will have screen printed DEFUND LINE 3 & FOSSIL FUELS/PROTECT FUTURE GENERATIONS posters (and tape/glue to attach it).

#DEFUNDLINE3: Because Stopping This Pipeline is a Matter of Justice

“The fight to stop the Line 3 tar sands pipeline is about justice for the land. It’s about justice for the water. Justice for Anishinaabe people whose culture and way of life it threatens. Justice for people all over the world who are being impacted by the climate crisis.

Back in 2016, I helped to launch #DefundDAPL. As Indigenous Water Protectors were being brutalized by racist, militarized police―shot with rubber bullets, bitten by attack dogs and blasted with water cannons in the middle of winter―#DefundDAPL spread nationally. Protests erupted in cities around the country, close to a dozen city governments committed to breaking ties with the funders of DAPL and nearly $100 million in personal accounts were moved away from the funders of that colonial pipeline.

Now is the time for us to defund the White Supremacist, carbon bomb that is Line 3. As an Anishinaabe woman it is my duty to protect the water, the land, and my people. I am moved to act because I love the people, the four-legged, the winged, the finned, the land, the water.

Majority Action released their call to Fire Wells Fargo Board Chairman Charles Noski, along with other key corporate leader opposing defunding Fossil Fuels. Stop the Money Pipeline will be working in conjunction with our San Francisco action to build national pressure to fire Noski and Defund Line 3/Fossil Fuels. From their release today:

Last year we demanded that climate-denial architect Lee Raymond be removed from the JPMorgan Chase board of directors. Lots of major shareholders, including 11 state treasurers, heard us and, after a strong no vote, Lee Raymond left the board.

This year we need to build on that success. Not every director is a climate super-villain, but too many are doing too little to transform their companies into sustainable practices. They need to be held accountable - which means fired. We are calling this "Proxy [shareholder]

Punjab, (or the land of five rivers), is one of the most prosperous state in India, and certainly the one, of which most Indians are proud. Inhabitated by industrious people, this state (backed by the most effective irrigation systems those days), was the first one to reap the benefits of Green Revolution - an Economic Experiment by Ford Foundatiuon etc., romanticised by Economists.

 

Green Revolution in the Indian context, meant all, or most of the following:

 

(1) Continued expansion of farming areas;

(2) Double-cropping existing farmland;

(3) Using seeds with improved genetics.

 

Following are some of the achievements of Green Revolution in the Indian Economic context::

 

(1)Crop areas under high-yield varieties needed more water, more fertilizer, more pesticides, fungicides and certain other chemicals. This spurred the growth of the local manufacturing sector. Such industrial growth created new jobs and contributed to the country's GDP.

 

(2)The increase in irrigation created need for new dams to harness monsoon water. The water stored was used to create hydro-electric power. This in turn boosted industrial growth, created jobs and improved the quality of life of the people in villages.

 

(3)India paid back all loans it had taken from the World Bank and its affiliates for the purpose of the Green Revolution. This improved India's creditworthiness in the eyes of the lending agencies.

 

(4)Some developed countries, especially Canada, which were facing a shortage in agricultural labour, were so impressed by the results of India's Green Revolution that they asked the Indian government to supply them with farmers experienced in the methods of the Green Revolution. Many farmers from Punjab and Haryana states in northern India were thus sent to Canada where they settled (That's why Canada today has many Punjabi-speaking citizens of Indian origin). These people remitted part of their incomes to their relatives in India. This not only helped the relatives but also added, albeit modestly, to India's foreign exchange earnings.

 

Lat but not the least, Green Revolution ensured that "Bengal Famine of 1943" would never be repeated in the history of independent India.

When every religious lunatic was glorifying the name of god and praising how the lord will take everyone away by making them die of starvation and their messed up doomsday theories, you were hard at work in your lab, crossing genes of thousands of wheat varieties.

 

Thank you for creating Rice varieties that yield 5 times as much as organic rice and additionally address the vitamin c deficiency issue on it as well so that my fellow indians did not die of starvation nor did they go blind due to malnutrition in the traditional rice variety.

 

Humanity owes you much, i would say thank you for being the human being that saved the most number of lives on planet earth single handedly, 245 million to be more precisely approximate.
