Building our house has been my sole focus. It's my giant art project :)

We're building with a panelized insulated concrete form. Here's a link to more information on the wall system we're using www.mightywall.com/ The video is of our walls going up.

The front faces south. We had the house plumbed for gray water. That's why there's 4 big pipes sticking out of the ground.

Construction is happening adjacent to the existing terminal

A view from behind Pete's house (North side). The cordwood is apparently "just veneer," the majority of the building materials used being off-cuts from exterior doors; keep reading and I'll explain.

There was someone standing by pretty much continuously sweeping up peas. Haha.

The United Kingdom’s considerable track-record of expertise and leadership in the green building sector was demonstrated in October through the presence of several British companies and organizations at the annual Greenbuild Conference and Expo in Toronto, Canada.

The companies – including the UK Trade & Investment’s largest ever Greenbuild delegation of ten organizations – represented the country’s deep capabilities in sustainable building practices ranging from design and architecture to construction and environmental assessment.

Starbird Youth Center, a Redevelopment Agency project, has been awarded SILVER LEED® certification, established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

The 3,840 square feet center was constructed with extensive use of recycled materials. It also boasts windows designed to capture sunrays, clerstory windows that allow the hot air to escape from the building, as well as a climate-controlled system that is maintained by a large fan to draw in air in the evening to cool down the building in the summer and a radiant floor heating system to heat the building in the winter. The Center’s large windows naturally illuminate the classrooms and lounge where neighborhood youth are tutored and socialize.

The total cost of the project was approximately $3.2 million, including $2.6 million from the San Jose Redevelopment Agency and $550,000 from Park Trust Funds.

Great simple demonstration of how a roman arch works. Even with no mortar, this wall keeps the "doorway" intact. The wall is built around the form, and then the form is removed.
