PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The weekend at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am brought together top golfers and celebrities on the golf course. But off the course Monterey's military community enjoyed watching the tournament from the Patriots Outpost military appreciation tent or as volunteers working in concessions tents in coordination with the Veterans Transition Center of Monterey. Jordan Spieth won the tournament with a final score of 19 under par, while television host Carson Daly won the amateur competition with partner Ken Duke.

I decided to do some reading this eve... not done yet, but I took the photo and back I'll go to my magazine, then spend time with the boys, then too, get in some guitar practice.

The article that I'm currently reading (really, re-reading) is a very good one, very relevant to my boys ages & stages. This article is entitled 'Hanging at Home' by Susan Spicer. It talks about why bigger kids need parents at home. I fully agree with it and do much prefer to be at home when my kids are. Two of the three have had babysitting courses ... but still, I feel they need guidance and to have parents open for discussion, available.

Here is a quote from the article (sorry, it is not available online at this date, Todays' Parent is great as they not only make a great parenting magazine, but the also do put articles online at their website too that are in their very informative parenting magazine.)

"As it turn out, research says my instincts are right. A recent US survey asked teens whether they felt they got to spend enough time with their parents. About 70 percent said they did but almost 25 percent said they wanted more."

I'm going to keep on trying to give my boys the time, I want them to be independent, but too... I want to guide them and help them to become independent, all in good time. I want them to know me and their Dad are interested in their lives, want to spend time with them and do activities with them, all of their years. I don't want to distance from them and make them feel alone and isolated as some parents tend to do. They need to know they have support and caring and we are there for them 100%. They are actually very responsible children already, they did see me through two broken bones (one ankle, one foot - both separate incidents) which did push them to do some activities independently (and inter-dependently) while I was healing. They are learning financial responsibility... get allowance, pay loans back to me and to each other when on occasion money is borrowed.

I think Greatone and I are doing a great job at raising our young boys... I really do look on with pride to my teen that seems to be doing very very well for a fifteen year old. No big issues yet... we deal with the issues while they are little, so they have no time to grow.

Another creator of Clark Ashton Smith, Tsathoggua is an ancient elder god who resembles a large, obese toad. ell, he got mentioned by H. P. Lovecraft, but in sort of a "here's a random name" way, which Smith picked up on.

Tsathoggua's Formless Spawn are shape-shifting servitors, amorphous and more capable of taking varied forms than even the Shoggoth. In their natural form, they are liquid, but they like to take the shape of tentacled horrors after seeping into the room you thought was safe.

"It was a paw, fully two feet and a half across, and equipped with formidable talons. After it came another paw, and after that a great black-furred arm to which both of the paws were attached by short forearms. Then two pink eyes shone, and the head of the awakened gug sentry, large as a barrel, wabbled into view. The eyes jutted two inches from each side, shaded by bony protuberances overgrown with coarse hairs. But the head was chiefly terrible because of the mouth. That mouth had great yellow fangs and ran from the top to the bottom of the head, opening vertically instead of horizontally."

-H. P. Lovecraft, "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath"

Gugs are ancient giants that dwell in the dark places of the world, banished there by the Great Old Ones. Their cities in the Dreamlands are vast, terrifying, inhuman even in their architecture. The Tower of Koth in the center of their city has a staircase that leads all the way to the surface, but is locked with a door that no Gug can open. Though nothing keeps the Gugs from ascending that stairway and waiting, silently by the door, waiting for some unwary soul to open the way...

The Faceless Ones, guardiand of Ngranek, terrifying creatures from the depth of nightmare, Nightgaunts are only some of the surreal things met by Randolph Carter in his quest through the dreamworlds. They got their name for a nickname H. P. Lovecraft gave his own screaming night-terrors.

The incomprehensible, mad gods of the outer parts of the universe are served by these strange, bloated, blind things. They continually dance around the great Azathoth, playing insane melodies to appease the Blind Idiot God. Theyalso perform the terrifying will of their masters throughout the cosmos, often "assisting" ignorant cultists in serving the will of the Outer Gods.

This morning hubby and I headed out in the car to Fort Edmonton for our grade 4 sons' field trip (our son traveled on the bus with the other students). This photo was taken by me as I was in the passenger seat and hubby driving our car.

We had a lovely trip up and enjoyed the visit to Fort Edmonton, looking at some of Edmonton's past history. Too we had a great ride home together. This eve I traveled away again in this same car of ours, this time an hours drive away to a sister-in-laws wedding shower (she shall be getting married in June). The shower was lovely. Hubby fore-warned me to watch out on the way home as deer are often problematic at dusk when driving through the country highways.

On the way home I was thinking of what hubby said, and I took off my sunglasses when the sun was getting low, to ensure I would continue to see as best I could and avoid any hazards, I was remembering his advice about deer.

No sooner had I put my sunglasses in the case and had two hands back on the steering wheel when I heard a loud noise and felt something strike the car, or the car drive over something? I looked in the rear view as I gripped the steering wheel, the car swerved out toward the center line slightly. I saw in the rear view a deer falling to the ground.... this animal had just run up against the passenger side of our car!

I pulled over when there was a little turn-off, a short while later... shaken and startled by what had happened, and really what could have happened. I got out and saw hair along the passenger side of the car, short white animal hairs... and too, noted a big dent in on the rear passenger door. On further assessment at home hubby and I found the front panel to be mildly dented, the front drivers door opens with some difficulty and the back passenger door opens and closes freely, though it has a definite dent.

Whoa... close.... I'm so glad that that deer had not come out a bit sooner, if he'd struck the front of my car... well, we just don't want to even go there. I'm very grateful to be home and the accident to be only minor, overall.

Hubby, in thought as he drove us to her parents place for an evening family get-together. This would be him doing the drive out while I took the time to rest (before starting to take photos) as I'd been up early for work

We drove on after picking up the boys (Hubby did return to the motor home a bit after me) then we made it to where we are now. We did stop and check with the generator to see if we could pick up Big Brother on TV, but seems we missed it tonight. By time we decided to stop it was between 8 and 9pm so we decided to stay at a Wal Mart and save fees for the night. John did actually use the generator and reheat chili for our younger two while I drove ... as well he prepared Eldest some food. Greatone and I ate after parking at the Wal Mart Superstore. Too. . We did a bit of shopping; we did every time we stopped at Wal Mart this trip (and I do believe this is our 3rd time). We got the boys some underwear, some shots, and too some fresh fruit as well as some Nintendo thing for Precious & Bobby that helps them with games.

Time for sleep. John intends to take the motor home for an oil change here in the morn as this Wal Mart is set up to do so. Then... we'll drive on and have breakfast down the road when we come to a decent roadside turnout.

We were on the sk-out at thsi point - Greatone stopped to look around.

FYI: any and all compliments to the photography in the "Spring ski trip 2006-banff" album go to my eldest son, Masterdrummer64 for photos in this album (Spring ski trip 2006 - Banff) - I didn't bring my camera up the mountain, regrettably.

Hubby sat on the bench, watching our boys in the lake. Behind him, to the left, you can see 'More Moo' where we did purchase the new floatie toys, and too... where you can buy delicous ice cream. There is another 'moo' store in Sylvan Lake called the "Big Moo"... both stores are very busy most summer days.

Lunch together... no kids, just us! :)

I took some time to crochet.... hubby was getting used to driving the motorhome, and too, I had driven some, and was getting the hang of it.

Here is a journal entry from earlier this day:

July 26th – Thursday

We spent last night in a “Wal Mart” parking lot. We’ve heard you can stay free in them so we saved campground fees our very first night. We were in Medicine Hat. We managed some shopping, getting a mat for outside and a couple throw pillows (as Eldest son did NOT bring a pillow for himself). Too, we got some low fat turkey slices to make sandwiches for Greatone and I – the boys ate at McDonalds. I found the seat height of the drivers seat a bit too high – it puts pressure behind my knee and as I have increasingly prominent varicosities this is why I have discomfort. The boys were not co-operating with lights out and quite time last night – so it was late when we finally got sleep – as a result Greatone and I decided they’d be screen-free today (No video games or movies) and they are quietly reading as we head out of Alberta.
