The Gibraltar Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on the Toronto Islands in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Begun in 1808, it is the oldest existing lighthouse on the Great Lakes, and one of Toronto's oldest buildings. The lighthouse is perhaps best known for the demise of its first keeper, German-born John Paul Radelmüller, whose 1815 murder forms the basis of Toronto's most enduring ghost story. Recent research has verified many aspects of the traditional tale of his death and identified the soldiers charged with but ultimately acquitted of the crime.

Actually, I have no idea what they were talking about, but that seemed like an appropriate title.

A cold windy walk out by the pier area but too windy and freezing to go all the way out this time.

On our way up the North Shore we stopped at the Split Rock Lighthouse viewpoint for a quick look and photo. We have visited the light on previous trips so we passed on it this time.

The Edna G, a steam powered tugboat built in 1896, is moored and retired in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

A late appearance of lake ice is likely due to the ever changing climate. The waterfowl must be satisfied with the remaining open spots or must move on. The pandemic makes large stretches of shoreline empty of human presence although cold temperatures have the same effect.

There is a distant and lingering cloud bank.

An archive shot from one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. It was taken with my old XTi. I added a slight texture over the shot.

One of the five Great Lakes. On a sunny day, you see these beautiful colors.

Split Rock Lighthouse on Lake Superior was decommissioned in 1969. Each year on November 10, the light is lit to commemorate the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in a storm on this date in 1975.

Although they're not native to Australia, I still love bumblebees. I saw a number of them feeding on thistles at the Great Lake near Miena in the Central highlands of Tasmania. They are confined to Tasmania so far after being introduced in the early 1990s, apparently from New Zealand.

Another one from the archives.

It was really cool this day and the lake was very choppy. Lake Huron is on the east side of Michigan so unfortunately for photos the sun was setting behind me.
