My entry for the F365 Monthly Photo Competition

FINALLY got a new computer on sunday.... it's impossible to live without a computer anymore, isn't it? especially when you have a photo project going on..... But anyway, i finally got one and now comes the horrendous task of restarting my organization and workflow. Neither is my strong point. And i can't seem to find all of my presets and actions I've made; I loaded all my back 365's into LR before importing the last known catalog... so i'll likely have to chose which things to keep there now- current or old. I wanted to do some stuff in PS but i can't just hit F8 and F3. and damn if i can remember how i set up those eFers. grrrr. uuugh. i need about 8 hours dedicated to just getting things loaded, reorganized, etc. I need a computer coach ;) but on a positive note......i think this computer will work just fine. i'm getting used to it on day 3 ;)

It isn't even hot here. Room temperature is about 22°C and all case fans are operational.

If I had a hot-air thingy I could try to reflow the RAM chips. But a replacement card is much cheaper than getting a cheap hot-air station. Maybe I will keep the card for experimenting with it later.

Live from the HME2009.

I Have recently had to change out my graphics card to keep me in the 21'st century of gaming and as we took the old one out a mate of mine suggested using it with the Friesians for a few photos.

So here's what I got....

I stood the case up so gravity would have an effect on the cables. I wanted to see how the cables would hang when the case was in the position it would be used in. One motherboard power cable is no longer resting on the heatsink (it needed some help), and the excess length on the SATA power cables was put into the 5.25 drive bay.

A big line for playing on the MSI Booth!

I was given this graphics card by a friend today.

It was in a white box so I didn't know what kind it was at first. The back side had a small NVIDIA logo and in small print there was a model number: P361.

After a quick search online, I found that it was the Geforce GTS 240. Apparently this graphics card was never sold in retail but rather came installed in pre-built PCs.

Taken with my Sony a55.

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition. DVI, VGA, and S-Video out. Core Image & Motion supported. I already went crazy with the ripple effect in Dashboard.

So here's the card opened up. Fan cover on the left, followed to the right by the heatpipes/heatsink/dual fan assembly, the mainboard with the nVidia 6800GT chip in the middle surrounded by the memory modules, and finally, the retaining plastic piece and tension screws.

Aside from the 6800 Ultra card, this was essentially the top of the line card at the time of purchase. The only other cards above this were the dual slot ATi and the first generation nVidia SLI cards that were just starting to be released.

This wasn't cheap although I imagine now, what with dual SLI cards, PCI-X, and what not, this is probably the equivalent of a GeForce 5200 to this that this is to today's cards.
