Eastern Oregon is a major wheat producing and exporting area. Much of its dry-land-winter wheat travels to Asia and the Middle East.
Wheat travels by barge down the Columbia River through the Columbia River Gorge and by rail too.
Here, the Mid Columbia Producers "a" House Dock Port Facility glows orange under vapor lamps in the blue hour light after sunset near Biggs Junction, Oregon. A pair grain barges is anchored on the edge of the shipping channel.
A train awaits with empty cars near the grey grain elevator.
Sherman Highway, US97, winds from west to east as it heads south out of Biggs Junction.
The American flag shows the direction of the summertime prevailing west winds that attract windsurfers and kite boarders from around the world.

The weather during yesterday's drive from Calgary to Drumheller was less than desirable. It was cold and windy, little to no sunlight, with a dusting of snow, and the forecast was for another 3-4 inches. Almost being blown over by the wind (lol), I managed this shot from the roadside.

These are the rails that service the local elevator. The tan and brown building are where the engine is stored when not in use.
Vintage wooden grain storage elevator. This classic old grain storage facility is made almost entirely of wood. I believe this is built using the Wooden Cribbed design. St. Anthony, Fremont County, Idaho
