Our neighbors feed a lot of hogs and one of their more unorthodox additives is expired pet food. Problem is,the pet food does not store well in a grain bin. Recently when the pet food stopped coming out, they found this. Needless to say, they cut open the bin and our using a backhoe to scoop it out. Equally needless to say, they stopped using pet food in their feed rations! LOL
Something I certainly never thought I'd see! Reminded me of Antelope Canyon in Arizona. HSS all!

I took this a few years ago. I still miss living in the Columbia Gorge. I want to revisit this spot this fall with an 8x10 camera.

A silo (from the Greek σιρός – siros, "pit for holding grain") is a structure for storing bulk materials. Silos are used in agriculture to store grain (see grain elevators) or fermented feed known as silage.

The Sharonville elevators were built in the 1930's for Central Soya. It was sold in 2002 to Bunge Ltd which closed the complex after the explosion on August 22, 2014. The closed site is now owned by a neighboring business, Vogt Warehouses.
Joel 1:17 “The seeds shrivel under their clods; the storehouses are desolate. The grain storage places are destroyed because grain has dried out.”
A set of old farm buildings used for grain storage set abandoned on an old farm north of Hennepin,IL. The little grain bin on the left was the "modern" mode, and was probably built sometime in the '60s. Old cribs still scatter the landscape on today's farms, but are seldom used....
Instantly recognisable and often erroneously called mushroom stones , Staddle stones (variations include steddle stones) have been used for centuries as the raised footings for granaries and tithe barns in order to prevent both damp and pesky rats and mice raiding the stores.
Generally found in the southern counties, Staddles can be found in a number of mediums, most commonly sandstone and granite, they will vary region by region and will these days be seen gracing rural driveways and gardens.
I have seen this type of granary in my area in Dorset (another southern county).

In even the smallest, most tenuous rejected towns of the Great Plains, the relic banks have grand names. This one is just "Bank." The little that's left of the town is all pretty much like that.
The title comes from the two sheds labeled Pit 1 and Pit 2 here at Ririe Grain & Feed. This is a huge grain storage area for such a small Idaho town.
An impressive grain storage silo(s)along train trackage in tiny Elva,IL. A large part of the trackage is now gone, but one track is still in use-there used to be 3-4 live tracks here. The old depot is still there, along with a few other RR buildings in poor condition. Elva itself is down to one street now and is now unincorporated.
While this old grain elevator has been closed for a long time,I'm sure the ghosts of many past trains still flyby underneath that incredible night sky....
