With great sadness, we must report the passing of our older cat, Gracie (June 2007-January 2022). She struggled long and valiantly against her hyperthyroid condition (and, lately, kidney cancer), but they eventually got the best of her. She was a wonderful cat, and we will miss her very much.

I met Gracie on a hike this past weekend at O'Hara Mill conservation area. She's a 9 year old Bernese Mountain dog. She decided to take a well deserved rest after a hike and a swim. She's a beautiful, sweet girl. So happy to have made her acquaintance.

This is my most-beloved neighbor cat.

I haven't posted a photo of Gracie Jo in a while. In this photo she's giving me a haughty expression. I think it was because Camille was nearby, at the base of the stone wall... putting Gracie Jo at a good height for looking down on Camille. (see adjacent photo)

She's at the entrance to her tunnel in the monkey grass.

Last night Sally and I went out after dark and sat on the steps where this is, and just talked for a while. Gracie Jo came out onto this same stone and rested beside us while we talked in the moonlight. We can add this to our repertoire of tricks to get her used to her new family.

I am still taking care of Gracie Jo as her human is in the hospital. Yesterday she never showed up to eat; I got my exercise making the rounds of the places she sometimes shows up.

Portrait of my dog Gracie. Gracie just had her fourteenth birthday a few days ago. Even at fourteen she still gets mistaken for a puppy. This was taken at the Grass Lake rest area on US Route 97 just north of Weed CA.
