A single monarch perched atop a newly opening Joe Pye Weed.

This swan gave me all the time in the world to record its cleansing ritual. I now know why they have such long necks!

Hanging out at the lake and capturing these majestic gulls in flight is one of my favorite ways to spend the late afternoon hours after a stressful day.

It's Monday - I have a feeling I'll be at the lake this afternoon! Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

A very simple shot of the swan in not the best light, but I like how graceful and calm it seems.

The lilies are just about finished, except for the daylilies, but they were very beautiful this year. Many colors

Scenic framing of graceful Terns enjoying a sunny day on a rock in front of Tiran Island.

Common Terns have long, narrow, angular wings and pointed wingtips. Unlike gulls, they have a straight, slender bill, the tail is forked and the legs are short.

Most are white with a dark cap and red or orange bill. Terns usually pair for life, though the pair bond is not maintained in the non-breeding season.

Those long-distance migrants

will travel well in excess of 500,000 miles on migration, more than enough to take it to the moon and back (a distance of 480,000 miles, on average). During the course of their life they will experience more daylight than almost any other creature. Although the Arctic Tern has the longest migration, many other species also traverse long distances between breeding and non-breeding season.

Across various cultures, the tern has long been associated with guidance, freedom, and the journey of the soul. Maritime communities have revered the tern as a guardian of the seas, believing that its presence signals safe passage.

Sailors often looked to these birds as signs of direction and protection during their voyages, trusting their instincts to guide them through stormy waters. In Indigenous traditions, the tern represents harmony with nature and the cyclical rhythms of life.

Terns represent the qualities that we as humans employ to survive, they give us hope.

Litoria gracilenta enjoying the rain last night in my local park in Brisbane.

Our Street Art Festival drowned in rain. No officiel winner was chosen by the Jury, as several of the artists didn't have a decent chance to finished their image. This beautiful image was chosen as the best by the audience.

A little additional info....most of the drawings are made as 3D-drawings. The artist often make a pair of food prints to show us from were we have to look to get the right impression, but this year only a few did that, so you are quite challenged to get it right ...lol It's sometimes difficult to see with your eyes only, but a shot with a phone, tablet or a point to shot camera actually makes the best pics. It's the second time we've the International Street Art Festival and it will continue as yearly event. The paintings will normally lasts for about 3-4 months even with bad weather and daily walking on them etc, but this year we had so much rain while they were made, that they already are starting to look fairly worn out.

The bare-faced ibis earns its name from the distinctive reddish, featherless skin on its face, strikingly contrasting its glossy dark plumage. Found primarily in South America, this graceful bird thrives in wetlands, grasslands, and agricultural areas. It has slow, deliberate wingbeats and the outstretched neck lends an air of elegance to its flight. Bare-faced ibises feed on insects, small amphibians, crustaceans, and other invertebrates, expertly foraging in shallow waters and soft soil.
