RKO_1586. After catching the fish (see below comment box) the juvenile kingfisher flew to this nice perch to enjoy its meal!
Unfortunately the weather conditions constantly changed making it difficult to get some descent images, hence the high iso. But you can't complain when you are able to watch these beautiful little birds.

Another successful dive in 2022! Light conditions challenging and an unwilling fish to pose. Understand he had other problems to cope with! Acceptable sharpness for such a dynamic shot.

RKO_2147. Almost too close to get a reasonable good and sharp shot! Not perfect this one, but giving you an idea of the impact of the dive.

I was able to grab a photo of this grey heron tossing around a mole before he swallowed it, nature at its best.

After many attempts at photographing these Tree Swallows, I found a nesting pair that were much more cooperative. They are spectacular in the sunlight.

Sibling Rivalry - Great Egrets
From Forest Preserves of Cook County"
Whether fishing or fighting, the great egret’s razor-sharp bill is an amazing tool:
Stalking & spearing: Standing motionless or slowly wading in shallow water, great egrets wait for prey (mainly small fish and amphibians) to swim by. With a swift stab of the bill, they pierce or snap up the oblivious prey—then swallow them whole.
Sibling rivalry: Dominant chicks have been known to use their bills to attack weaker siblings in the nest, sometimes resulting in death.
Nest defense: Great egrets most often nest in isolated tree-top colonies with other water birds. If a predator manages to make it to a nest, they’ll be met with sharp thrusting bills.
From the photographer - it appears that these two will make it to fledge - likely there was a third sibling that wasn't so lucky - the population at this rookery is way down from years past and likely food is an issue - whether that resulted in a sibling killing or not, I don't know. These two appeared to be trying to grab each other's beak for food the way they grab their parent's beak - this is the behavior I've always seen among the egrets.
