Yesterday, we had a bright, sunny morning, which was probably the reason this young owl kept its eyes shut to mere slits much of the time that I watched it. Two other owls were hunting in the same general area where I found this one. However, I would have needed a super telephoto lens to get acceptable shots of either of them. It was enough to see three Snowy Owls in the same morning. This winter has been very generous with its gifts and I am deeply grateful.
Got in some flight shot practice on waterfowl and apparently was having a double vision epode when looking at the Canada Geese sitting on the pond ice. Also got a nice Wood Duck on the lawn. Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima, Washington. IMG_0306
This Great Blue Heron had been fishing this spot for a bit, and came up successful with this tidbit.

Male American Kestrel flying off to a tree with a nice Vole catch at Lake Galena. Peace Valley Park, New Britain PA. Right place and time, but on the wrong side of the sun.
Got some wild results from reflecting my LED lights in an old CD. I know I say this nearly every week, but I took loads of these and a couple of others for the theme, so difficult to choose the final post!

His wonderful stream :
Last week we got about 60cm of snow and today we got about 10-15cm of ice and sleet (which is like ten times worse than 1 meter of snow). So New England winter is in full swing and I am looking forward for summer 2022 and the day I am going to fly to Greece. Until that day though, I can think about that by looking at photos from last summer. This is the Bouza lighthouse in Aegina, one of my favorite places on the island. Errected in 1881, it's only 9meters tall but still one of the island's most famous landmarks. It sits at the island's westernost spot right next to the church of Saint Apostles. A beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sunset as the ferries pass by. It feels like the lighthouse is providing a shining path to them.
PS: I know I haven't been around much commenting and (most importantly) replying to comments on my photos, but at some point I will find the time to show my appreciation to your comments and faves!
Thievery Corporation - The Shining Path
The Black Skimmer is one of my favorite birds down at the shore. I just love watching them skim along the water catching fish. Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Galloway, NJ.
I think he is posing, I am pretty sure that he had the impression I was going to take the shot and just turned his head ever so slightly.
Female Common Kingfisher emerging with a snack.
Spent last Saturday trying to get this shot and took about a thousand - most of which were rubbish for one reason or another - but you only need 1!
Had to try and work out exactly where the Kingfisher would emerge and manually focus with the fastest shutter speed and maximum depth of field possible (whilst not pushing the ISO too high). So in other words 'spray and pray' as soon as the bird dives.
Even at f/7.1 there is only a few millimetres depth of field - luckily on this occassion she emerged parallel to my plane of view and from the right spot.
Even for the R5 the animal eye AF can't grab the bird eye diving or emerging - but at least it can take 20 frames a second which helps greatly with this type of thing.
American Kestrel. The Mighty Little Hunter with another kill at Lake Galena. Peace Valley Park, New Britain PA.
The Cliff Swallows here are really tough to get. They fly so low and fast over the dam and disappear, then pop up to go back to the nest. Bucks County PA.
Thank you my sweet Beth for doing yet another beautiful idea with me ♥
