A photo taken during our family tour of the South Island last month. Vivid turquoise water of the Hokitika River rushes through a magnificent granite gorge lined with native bush.

This was a little spot that we camped at for a couple of nights...we were lucky, we had all to ourselves. Sadly the small amount of water in the gorge was not safe to swim in, due to some microbes that could cause brain damage. We risked using it to wash our feet!

Dawn overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.

Still in Sogið in full flow

I have seldom seen this gorge in full flow since I was six years old. Today I wisited a small walley in the gorge, where I can sit on a rock with the water almost at my toes

Over many years the ice hag gorged out some unusual features in Iceland. This was on the east of the island.

Cathedral Gorge is in the Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park, Western Australia. The short hike to the gorge takes you through the famous Bee Hive domes, Absolutely stunning.

Some lovely must before we lost all the leaves this Autumn.

The Cataract Gorge Gardens have always been one of the major tourist drawcards to Launceston. After making the mile long walk along the spectacular cliffside of the ancient lower gorge, visitors arrived at this exotic garden filled with native and imported plants and a large family of peacocks whose descendants still rule the gardens to this day.

It had been raining all day, but on this late afternoon I took advantage of some late sunshine to capture this infrared scene. The emphasis here is on mood.

Kaligandaki river is older than the Himalayas. It divides two massive mountains Dhaulagiri 8167m and Annapurna 8091m of the Himalayas Nepal. The river has its source on the border of Tibet/Nepal. When it reaches the south it becomes a tributary of the Ganges, the holy river of the Hindus. Trekkers follow the trail or jeep track along the river.

From mist we drove north into bright summer sunshine. In forming the gorge the Rakaia river has carved its way down eons of years of sediments leaving a highly textured cliff face beside the road. The day ended in torrential rain but that is a story for tomorrow.

We spent the day at Taughannock Falls State Park with the splendid 400 foot gorge walls and 215 foot waterfall.

Gorge walks are great fun, you are guaranteed to get wet, but with the right equipment, it is very rewarding to complete.

Yesterday I had a day on the Somerset Coast with Louis Goldman, on the way, we stopped off at Cheddar Gorge for a quick visit.

It's such a stunning view up here, my previous visit was marred by low cloud and fog so I didn't really get a great shot. This time though, we had some decent cloud and after a short while, we managed to get some lovely side light on the gorge.

I still want to get up here for sunset one evening, but I think I'll have to wait until later in the year as the sun is setting too far to the south at the moment.

A Royal Gorge Route Railroad (then, Canon City and Royal Gorge) passenger train pauses near Hanging Bridge west of Gorge siding in the depths of Royal Gorge, west of Canon City, Colorado, on May 14, 1999. One of the world's highest suspension bridges, Royal Gorge Bridge, which spans the Arkansas River at a height of nearly 1000 feet, soars over the train. This locomotive is former Chicago and North Western Executive F7 No. 402, and lives on today pulling popular excursions through the Royal Gorge. (Update—No. 402 now as a “retirement job” of being on display at Canon City…)
