The fortress has had a tumultuous history. The construction of the Castle started in 1583, and the outer defenses, walls and moats were built soon after, and completed in 1598. Exceptionally large stones, some of them weighing as much as 100 tonnes were brought from quarries about 100 kilometres away to build the huge walls. How those colossal stones were moved and assembled into massive walls, with the technology available 400 years ago, is still a mystery.
Happy Fence Friday!
The construction of this fence reminded me of the forts and stockades built in the days of the Wild West.
Happy Bench Monday. This was spotted on a local walk around Deer Lake and is one of the first photos I have taken with my new Google Pixel 3 camera phone.
This is another one of those T-Bone Steaks that I got on sale recently. It turned out really good on my indoor grill! Although I would have preferred a thicker cut, I really can't argue with the price at only CDN$5.49/lb!
I'll be keeping my eye out for another great sale!
Home Cooking
I had a craving for Vietnamese Pho so I called up a friend and we headed over to Good Pho You in Ajax. I've wanted to try this place for quite a while.
We ordered their House Special Pho, their Rare Beef and Flank Pho, and their Fried Spring Rolls.
The spring rolls had good flavour, although they were a bit smaller than what I'm used to.
We had both ordered the medium-sized pho and it was good sized portions, with lots of meat and noodles. I would have preferred a bit more flavour in the broth but it was good. The meat was all perfectly tender and the noodles were also perfectly cooked.
Our server, Ingrid, was the perfect host! She checked on us several times and was quite friendly and engaging. Great service!
We'll be back...

I love soups! One of my favourites is Korean Pork Bone Soup. Owl of Minerva, close to home makes a great one that's rich in flavour, with a generous amount of meat and great tasting sides, including kimchi, bean sprouts, and more. Satisfyingly delicious!

Clyde was transfixed as we cut cheese to go with our lunch - well, Dave's cheddar. He wasn't at all interested in my camembert?

I wanted a new phone or point and shoot camera that can take pictures indoors and I've been so happy with my new phone. RJ was in the middle of rolling around on the ground so these are all almost "mid action". The camera responded instantly when I hit the shutter button even though RJ was moving. I cropped them a LOT and they are still nice and focused
We got the bus into Cambridge from Trumpington Park n Ride this morning but I forgot to check WHICH Hilton Hotel we should be going to... apparently not the one in the centre of Cambridge. So the bus passed nearby on the way in... but not on the way back :(
Ah well, had a lovely lunch and a wander but too busy to enjoy.

Made it a little further around the village today - and saw that the post box has moved and that it's one of the new ones for Charles III.

Before the Kemosabe Liquid Sunshine, each Sunday afternoon I'd take a long walk through either Astoria or Long Island City. Then, I would arrive back home around 4 or 5pm when I'd prepare an early dinner

I'm on the road back, having concluded my 6th Cycle on Thursday, October 2nd. Tis a bumpy road, mind you, as I am still afflicted with Neuropathy of my feet, which are both numb, allied with swollen ankles. Makes walking quite challenging. I'm feeling how nothing significant will change until mid-November or early December. That's just a hunch and I may be completely wrong. I'm no doctor.
When I first began my Cycles back in early June (2025), I was having my head shaven each week. Then it stopped growing completely, though several days ago I noticed how it has begun to grow again

Despite this shot, Bonnie doesn't always sleep in one corner now - at the moment, she's stretched out down the middle of the bed.
Two weeks on, and although she still looks for her brother Clyde sometimes, she is getting better. She's also very demanding about play time and coming in to be with us.. the headbanging at the door starts at around 730 a.m.
