Google continues to celebrate Sesame Street's 40th Anniversary today with a doodle logo that suggests that the Cookie Monster has been munching on cookies that were in the shape of "Google".
Amusingly, the Cookie Monster peers over the top of the search box as though he's hiding behind it, or as though he might munch on it next, and one feels a bit like you're putting your hand in his mouth when you type stuff into the search form...
Happy Birthday, Sesame Street!
Google's doodle logo to commemorate and celebrate "Pi Day", 3/14/2010.
Pi Day and Pi Approximation Day are two holidays held to celebrate the mathematical constant π (pi) (in the mm/dd date notation: 3/14); since 3, 1 and 4 are the first three decimal digits of π. March 14 is also the birthday of Albert Einstein and the two events are sometimes celebrated together.
Google's logo commemorating Frank Lloyd Wright's birthday in 2005. Google apparently admires Wright's work, and is seeking to take over the Guggenheim museum in order to rebrand it.
Google today posted a logo commemorating Michael Jackson's birthday. Michael Jackson, "The King of Pop", was born on August 29, 1958, and would've turned 51 today, if he had not died a little over a month ago.
The Google Michael Jackson logo sports two feet wearing shiny shoes and ruffled socks, "on-point", with them on their toes as though in the midst of a dance move.
This is a picture I took in California's Hearst Castle Museum of a comic strip in a newspaper on display.
The comic strip is entitled 'Barney Google' and google is in the exact same font as Google's logo today. Below the logo is the text 'registered U.S Patent office'.
The paper is dated August 14, 1936.

With the update of the Google logo, I decided to recreate an Etch A Sketch I made of the Google homepage. It was really tricky to get those tiny letters in "I'm Feeling Lucky!"
Google celebrated E.C. Segar, creator of Popeye the Sailor Man, today with one of their cool Google Doodle logos.
The logo depicts Popey socking the "oogl" with his oversized fists, and the iconic spinach can forms the "e" in Google. The letters bang against the can, and it shoots a stream of spinach into Popeye's mouth, assumably, just like in the old cartoons and funny papers.
This is the first time I've seen them treat a logo with the halftone screen dots which used to be the hallmark of offset color printing!
Offset color printing uses multiple printing runs to immitate a full range of colors we see in the real world. Basically, the printing expert creates printing plates for four or more colors, traditionally "CMYK" - cyan, magenta, yellow, and "K" for black. They make each printing plate by making it a screen of dots -- since with old printing plate technology an ink color could only be printed or not printed. So, the tiny dots allowed an image to be printed in a halftone so that it appears in different gradations of shade to the eye. So, four different colors are printed in the shape of the logo, each with a screen turned or "offset" from one another by an angle, allowing the tiny dots of colored ink to each be printed slightly apart from one another. In the human eye, at a slight distance, the four colors mix together to create a full range of colors, immitating the full range of colors we see in the world.
The Google Popeye logo purposefully displays the larger offset dots, reminding one of printing of the Sunday Newspaper funnies - cartoon section.

The Google name letters are all but obscured in this doodle logo, but it certainly represents the zeitgeist of the moment!
Google logos wallace and grommit only in google UK. Also en google.de, google.at and google.ch and other. Thanks Pascal H.
I really liked this Google Logo. Apparently, they took it down at the request of people representing Joan Miro's Family. :/
The first Google "doodle" was created in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they attended Burning Man for the 1st time.
