"The automatic writing project started out as an activity among friends and locals. I would write a line someone else would write a line and so on... Then people would overhear us and ask if they could participate and write something too (which surprised me) of course I said "yes!" At that point I realized that lots of people have something to say. I started asking strangers to add entries, then I graduated to offering people $1.00 to participate, some people do not accept the dollar and some pay me a $1.00 (paying it forward). It's becoming quite a lovely, surprising and compelling project. People from many walks of life are participating: homeless, a news reporter, academics, doctors, drug addicts, lawyers, tourists etc... People have written things in my journal that they'd never say out loud, not to anyone. Some of it's so sad, some intriguing, hilarious and so on... At the end of the day, every one of these people understand that their entries are being uploaded to the internet and are comforted in knowing that they will be heard. I have no idea where this is going, but it's going just fine! FYI: English is not everyone's first language here. I will be illustrating the book/journal after the text is done. I hope that everyone who reads these entries learns something about people, mostly that we never know what someone else is going through.

This was the brokenest book I've ever owned. I was bequeathed it by Evan, who read it several times in high school, and also let it spend a good long while in his best friend's treacherous backpack. There were structural tears all through the binding (this was just the best one, pictured), superficial tears on the spine and covers, and badly peeling laminate all over the place.
Then I decided I wanted to read it! So I had a problem.

from Goodreads - The legacy of the ill-fated Titanic now is almost synonymous with the fictionalised love story of the famous movie. But what about the real couples aboard the ocean liner? Among the passengers were 13 couples on their honeymoon, full of hope for a future together.
In the case of six couples, both survived. Four couples saw the death of the husband and the survival of the wife. And tragically, three couples died. Each story is rich in personal and historical detail.
Read about the lady who wasn’t able to remarry because she had no proof that her husband died, and a mother who had a premonition that an ocean voyage for her son and his new wife would bring bad luck, and made them promise to avoid boats.
********************************************************************************************************
My Review - The sinking of the Titanic was one of the most disastrous accidents of all time. The sad part is that many of the deaths could have been avoided. That's the sad part of this story. If attitudes would have been different, it would have been a whole different story. It was just one big screw-up from day one from assuming that this ship would never sink to the closing off of decks where the 3rd class were riding. It seems that right from the start this was ship just for the upper class. Oh sure, the poorer passengers could ride if they could drum up the money, but they could not have the same things that those riding in 1st class could have.
I did like the book, but I was a bit disappointed that many of the stories were just about the wealthier passengers. They all pretty much read the same to me. Towards the last of the book is where a few stories come in about the honeymoon couples who were 2nd and third class passengers
From Goodreads - The Passage meets Ender’s Game in an epic new series from award-winning author Rick Yancey.
After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

My Review - you only pick up one book this year, make it this one. I'm not even sure I can exactly explain to you why. Saying it's an excellent read is not enough. It has everything I enjoy in a dystopian/apocalyptic novel. I was really blown away by everything. As I'm reading half the time I'm saying, "Wow, I didn't see that coming" or "You have got to be kidding me". It's suspenseful and exciting. The 5th Wave is one of those books that grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go. I can't wait for book 2.

From Goodreads - In magical Victorian London, orphan Tessa found safety with the Shadowhunters, until traitors betray her to the Magister. He wants to marry her, but so do self-destructive Will and fiercely devoted Jem. Mage Magnus Bane returns to help them. Secrets to her parentage lie with the mist-shrouded Yorkshire Institute's aged manager Alyosius Starkweather
********************************************************************************************************
My Review -
I liked this one much better than Clockwork Angel. First of all I think it had a bit more Shadowhunter action, which I like to read about. Second it had more of a backstory so that I can understand the characters a bit more.
I'm not a fan of the love triangle between Tessa, Will, and Jem. I think it takes up too much of the story. The girl needs to choose and be done with it. I don't really have much patients for love triangles. I find them very cliché.
In the 3rd book I am hoping to see more of Jessamine's story and why she is the way she is. She is the one character that I feel nothing much for. She is one of the supporting characters, but I don't feel she has much substance going for her.
Overall I am glad I picked this up to read. Clare is a very good story teller and I think that as she progresses her writing has steadily gotten much better since City of Bones. I look forward to more from her
From Goodreads - Life was different in the Before: before vampires began devouring humans in a swarm across America; before the surviving young people were rounded up and quarantined. These days, we know what those quarantines are—holding pens where human blood is turned into more food for the undead monsters, known as Ticks. Surrounded by electrical fences, most kids try to survive the Farms by turning on each other…
And when trust is a thing of the past, escape is nearly impossible.
Lily and her twin sister Mel have a plan. Though Mel can barely communicate, her autism helps her notice things no one else notices—like the portion of electrical fence that gets turned off every night. Getting across won’t be easy, but as Lily gathers what they need to escape, a familiar face appears out of nowhere, offering to help…
Carter was a schoolmate of Lily’s in the Before. Managing to evade capture until now, he has valuable knowledge of the outside world. But like everyone on the Farm, Carter has his own agenda, and he knows that behind the Ticks is an even more dangerous threat to the human race...

My Review - I'm not sure where to start with this one, so I will randomly review what comes into my head.
1. The first 100 pages are a bit of a snooze. It's setting up for the rest of the book, but I think it could have been done in less pages. Don't get discouraged, just hang on till around 100 pages because it gets really good.
2. Lily, one of the main characters, is so damn annoying and clueless I found myself hoping that a tick would get her just to shut her up some. You can only be a stubborn ass for so long before those around start to plan your demise. Ok so that wasan't anyone in the book that wanted to, that was just me. I think at the very end she decided to get her head out of her ass and start to listen to what Sebastian and Carter were trying to tell her. It's a shame she suffered a loss to finally get it.
3. Mel, Lily's autistic twin, has to be one of my favorite characters. She says very little, but her thoughts are dead on. One thing that I thought about through the book is that Lily is really not listening to her sister like she should.
4. Sebastian and Carter are such an odd duo that they made me laugh. Sebastian is so sarcastic he reminds me of myself.
I love the unique storyline and I love that their will be more books in this series. It has so much potential.
Exactly as title, a cup of nice red bush tea and a good read, in the form of the new issue of AG Magazine which dropped through my letterbox this morning.
Taken from Goodreads:
Katie is driving to work one beautiful day when a dead man jumps into her car and tries to eat her. That same morning, Jenni opens a bedroom door to find her husband devouring their toddler son.
Fate puts Jenni and Katie—total strangers—together in a pickup, fleeing the suddenly zombie-filled streets of the Texas city in which they live. Before the sun has set, they have become more than just friends and allies—they are bonded as tightly as any two people who have been to war together.
During their cross-Texas odyssey to find and rescue Jenni’s oldest son, Jenni discovers the joy of watching a zombie’s head explode when she shoots its brains out. Katie learns that she’s a terrific tactician—and a pretty good shot.
A chance encounter puts them on the road to an isolated, fortified town, besieged by zombies, where fewer than one hundred people cling to the shreds of civilization.
It looks like the end of the world. But Katie and Jenni and many others will do whatever they have to to stay alive. Run, fight, pick each other up when they stumble, fall in love…anything is possible at the end of the world.
***********************************************
My Review -
I love me some zombies, however they need to be done right. This book was done right. My favorite thing about the book is that the lead characters are women in a zombified world who are not scared to get right in the midst of things and battle along with the men. Jenni and Katie have proven to be some very tough ladies. My second favorite part of the book is how it jumped right into the story. It's like going to the lake on the very first day of summer and just jumping in and not knowing if the lake is going to be cold or warm. Well this lake was quite cold and slapped you right in the face from page 1. I have already ordered the other two in this series and I can't wait till I have them in my hands to see what else happens with Jenni, Katie, and the survivors of Ashley Oaks
