Exerpts From Shawnah's Blog:
....."I have always been an advocate of preserving one's culture, and having great respect for other cultures as well. One of my fondest places to visit, and getting giddy whenever I have assignments there and extra time to have a vacation is Bangkok. Recently though for the past months my favorite cultural city is in great danger. Heavy rains bombarded Thailand with so much rain, it flooded an area the size of Denmark, and now the waters are slowly flooding Bangkok. As I read the new invitation of THE Wilhelmina to be at the MAMAC for some crazy fashion and some of them modern art, I had a light bulb moment. I took the chance to coordinate with the art people there and went out of my way, to ba an exhibit myself... To raise awareness of the floods in Bangkok and even though the thais, as a race arent really cry babies and are not yelling at the world for their remorseful situation, I know they need our help, URGENTLY. I became the scale of balance, the scale that tips off whenver man becomes irresponsible with his deeds. Global warming making freak weather seems normal, floods all over the world that enundates both the human spirit and the intangible culture the citizens posses... but then, there is the other part of the scale, HOPE. Hope that one day when the waters recede and once again the streets of Bangkok become walkable again, people should revisit it once again like they used to before, stimulate confidence among locals that here is their beloved city rising up once again from the flood... a chance to recultivate culture, hear the bustling noise of the city, hear the cheerful and amiable way thai speak their language, and most of all, a chance to rebuild their spirits and set them high both as thai people and a nation..."
