undoubtedly a perfect name,
the goliath heron (ardea goliath) is the World's largest heron.
unfortunatly its not a confident and common bird so in many years i never got full frame and clear photos.
those birds are quiet shy but i got better result using a very little boat drifting with engine off.

We first spotted this hippo in the grass before it gradually made its way towards a watering hole early one morning. At this moment it had just climbed up on the bank of the hole before it descended to have a drink. As you can see it also has a bit of evidence of a battle of some sort. Life is never easy for wildlife, be it predator or prey.
In all we likely spent about a half hour observing it. Without doubt this was the best land sighting I've ever had for a hippo.

Goliath is a character in the biblical Book of Samuel, described as a Philistine giant defeated by the young David in single combat.
size doesn't matter, it's HEART, COURAGE, and COMMITMENT that matters. Think bigger than the challenge, be bigger than the obstacle, and act as if it's impossible for you not to fail.
Never this thematic has been more actual !

The Goliath heron (ardea goliath), also known as the giant heron, is a very large wading bird of the heron family, Ardeidae. It is found in sub-Saharan Africa, with smaller, declining numbers in Southwest and South Asia. This is the world's largest living heron.

Héron goliath
Ardea goliath - Goliath Heron
Le héron goliath est le plus grand des échassiers. Il vit uniquement en Afrique et cette image est faite au Kenya dans les marais du lac Baringo.
In a crater of ash and smoke, the light fades from the beast's eyes, yet seem to remain open in their charred blackness - appraising the hero from a realm beyond death.

Another attempt to convert one of my goliath heron pics into something different - I would appreciate all comments favourable or not.
Just come back home to find lots of favourable comments - thank you for that, I will take it further now that I have so many independent views.
As to what I did - selected the heron and reflection and masked off to get the shapes I wanted. Then a couple of coloured layers to provide the background and a dark vignette to concentrate the picture. I think that was this version.

Le Héron goliath est le plus grand de tous les échassiers. On le rencontre en Afrique subsaharienne où il fréquente principalement les rivières et les lacs peu profonds, qu'ils soient d'eau salée ou qu'ils soient d'eau douce.
The Goliath Heron is the largest of all wading birds. It is found in sub-Saharan Africa where it mainly frequents rivers and shallow lakes, whether saltwater or freshwater.
Commonly known as the Carolina sphinx moth and the tobacco hawk moth (as adults) and the tobacco hornworm and the Goliath worm (as larvae), it is closely related to and often confused with the very similar tomato hornworm (Manduca quinquemaculata); the larvae of both feed on the foliage of various plants of the family Solanaceae.
Tomato hornworms have eight V-shaped white markings with no borders; Tobacco hornworms have seven white diagonal lines with a black border. Additionally, Tobacco hornworms have red horns, while tomato hornworms have dark blue or black horns.[2] A mnemonic to remember the markings is tobacco hornworms have straight white lines like cigarettes, while tomato hornworms have V-shaped markings (as in "vine-ripened" tomatoes).
