CN 3924 has just finished the shove of gypsum empties out of Wrights Cove and sits under the stars. The crew is preparing to head for Milford to grab loads from the mine.

The L513 is an as needed train that compliments L511 during busier times in the gypsum world.

The Potts Valley Branch has always struck me as a short but fascinating branch line. All 4.5 Miles of it consists of sharp curves, rural farmland, tree tunnels, and for the majority of it, running alongside the tiny but picturesque Stony Creek, known throughout Giles County for its Trout Fishing.

All of these features that shape the Line make it seem like the ideal place for anyone seeking action on an authentic Appalachian branch line, but it comes with one sharp disadvantage- it hosts no Daylights. It hasn't for over five years. I would get lucky in August 2025 with a daylight move via train V34, but here in July of 2023, there seemed like no hope for such a move.

Here at Kerns on a Chilly summer evening, Radford's V33 rolls up to the Mainline Derail at Lhoist/Chemical Lime with a Handful of empty lime hoppers. At the time of this photo, Lhoist operated two Limestone Mines on the Branch, but now just this one (known to Radford Trainmen as the Upper Plant) keeps the old Big Stony Railway relevant to the infinitely larger Norfolk Southern Corporation.

shot of april getting the lines of goldbond, er I mean cocain, ready.

Once again, Sierra GP20 #48, which I call "The Goldbond Unit," is in charge of the Wine Train on its trip back to Napa.

I know the Gold Bond series will bring more $ but really that much even though it needs full restoration?

Last night I went up to my roof with an 8mm projector and a bottle of Gold Bond Powder and ended up with what you see above. Not bad for a first try but it was windy as hell and Gold Bond was going every where. I plan on giving it another try on a still night.

Sandy Saver the Thrifty Scotsman was the mascot for Gold Bond trading stamps from the late 1940s until the 1960s. Gold Bond Stamps were similar to S&H Green Stamps and others, given out by stores and gas stations to customers as a discount for cash, which could then be licked and stuck into books and redeemed for merchandise.

Gold Bond Stamps were founded in Minneapolis in the 1930s by businessman Curt Carlson. The Gold Bond Stamp Company evolved into a much bigger, diversified corporation now called the Carlson Companies.

Shimming foot powder. It's like Goldbond, but for girly girls. I bought some because, hey, I have sweaty feet like all other girls, and dude, it reads "Foot Fetische". How can I NOT have a can of that at home?

You should have seen the clerk's face :p There was much pointing and giggling over the brand.
