The Temple of Aphaia (Greek: Ναός Αφαίας) or Afaea is located within a sanctuary complex dedicated to the goddess Aphaia. Formerly known as the Temple of Jupiter Panhellenius, the great Doric temple is now recognized as dedicated to the mother-goddess Aphaia. It was a favourite of the Neoclassical and Romantic artists such as J. M. W. Turner.
It stands on a c. 160 m peak on the eastern side of the island approximately 13 km east by road from the main port of Aegina island, which lies in the Saronic Gulf, Greece.
Aphaea (Greek: Ἀφαία, Aphaía) was a Greek goddess who was worshipped almost exclusively here. She originated as early as the 14th century BCE as a local deity associated with fertility and the agricultural cycle. Under the later Athenian hegemony she came to be identified with the goddesses Athena and Artemis and with the nymph Britomartis as well, by the 2nd century CE, the time of Pausanias:
On Aigina as one goes toward the mountain of Zeus, god of all the Hellenes, the sanctuary of Aphaia comes up, for whom Pindar composed an ode at the behest of the Aeginetans. The Cretans say (the myths about her are native to Crete) that Euboulos was the son of Kharmanor, who purified Apollo of the killing of the Python, and they say that Britomartis was the daughter of Zeus and Kharme (the daughter of this Euboulos). She enjoyed races and hunts and was particularly dear to Artemis. While fleeing from Minos, who lusted after her, she cast herself into nets cast for a catch of fish. Artemis made her a goddess, and not only the Cretans but also the Aeginetans revere her. The Aeginetans say that Britomartis showed herself to them on their island. Her epithet among the Aeginetans is Aphaia, and it is Diktynna of the Nets on Crete. Description of Greece 2.30.3

Whispering encouragements into the Lamb's ear was all it had taken. Chaos watched as the Lamb opened the first seal, the fingers of her many hands playing along her staff accompanied by the soft metallic sounds of the lantern chain moving against the steel. Whether or not the female figure actually has a face beneath the inky black shroud is a question that has gone unanswered since the beginning.. A few more words are muttered but impossible to make out. Her voice, if that's what it was, came out like a soft breeze moving through the trees, and low enough that only the Lamb could hear them. Moments later the second seal is broken followed by the third...and then the fourth. The air grew heavy as the doors opened, each revealing a mounted figure looming out of the foggy darkness. The four moved toward Chaos, two taking up positions at each of her sides. Raising her right hands, the staff and chain clutched within the triple grip, she extends her arm forward. Not a word was spoken, but as the lantern swung slowly the four urged their mounts into a gallop. The apocalypse is a child of Chaos. It's siblings, Pestilence, War, Famine and Death were it's heralds. Riding far and wide they bestowed their gifts upon humanity, feeding Mother Chaos as they left countless mired in the mortal coil. Like a snowball rolling down a hill and growing with each revolution, so too will Chaos grow in the end of days.

Updated an old look from last year, this head was too perfect to not use! Being a bit of a cat lady I've always had a love for Bastet.
Bastet is the Egyptian goddess of the home, domesticity, women's secrets, cats, fertility, and childbirth. She protected the home from evil spirits and disease, especially diseases associated with women and children.

Up on Derwent Edge in the Peak District, the weathered stones take on some strange shapes. This one is popularly known as the Cakes of Bread - it's one of 3 or 4 similar ones standing in a row but at annoying spaces that didn't look great in a collective shot. Definitely a she I think. And struck me as being a rather comical, and now petrified, invading giant.

Lalique's goddess Chrysis adorns the radiator of Mrs. Onassis's custom Packard
Packard introduced its Sixteenth Series models in September of 1937. Most changes for the Senior cars were cosmetic including pontoon-shaped fenders and split windshields. The Super Eight features Packard's silky-smooth 320 cubic-inch, 130-horsepower inline eight-cylinder engine, which was actually the Standard Eight engine of previous years. Packard tallied 48,682 sales for 1938, far less than 1937, but still the best showing of all independents. The market for custom coachwork was rapidly declining along with the number of luxury car makers following the stock market crash of 1929.
This car rides on the 137-inch wheelbase platform and is a unique custom-bodied Super Eight Coupe. It was delivered to the Mayfair Carriage Company in London to be fitted with this stylish and very British two-door body. Designated an export chassis by Packard, the car is equipped with both a right-hand drive and a 12-volt electrical system. The car had been ordered by a European shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis, for his mother. While in Europe, the car resided in Greece, Italy, Spain, and France, prior to coming to the United States. After the war, the car was sadly neglected; it was abandoned and was being used as a chicken coop.(YIKES!!!) Its rescuer, an American Naval officer, brought it back to the United States, and it has since been restored to its former glory by its current owner.
