Night Solo in a DA20 Katana

Taken during my Commercial Pilot Training in L3 Hamilton, New Zealand.

We would fly night navigation flights solo and navigate visually (VFR). While the cities and towns could always be seen, there is always caution when approaching black unlit areas as they could be mountains or obstructions, hence the large charts to double/triple check.

GoPro mount fingers add problems because it is too easy to accidentally tilt the camera. New aluminum cage with 1/4” makes one less point of failure when recording.

I set my GoPro up on the other bird feeder pole before I left for church this morning, again on 10 second intervals until the battery ran dead 507 shots later. I have hundreds of the goldfinches but today I also got some of one of the bluebirds. These GoPro shots won't make the cover of any birder magazine but have been fun to do!

DIY GoPro lens covers. Really just some plastic "leg tips" to protect flooring from chair and table legs.

The NZ brand is "Zenith". These are "durable" (not "high durable") "plastic leg tips". Available in black or white. Black seems a bit more professional, but white seems harder to lose.
