From Paris to New York: A People's Agenda for Preventing Climate Change

Portland,OR (Glenhaven City Park) -- On September 8, tens of thousands of people gathered for a major climate mobilization across the U.S. and the world. People around the world joined more than 830 events in 91 countries under the “Rise for Climate” banner. In the U.S., over 300 events took place in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The “Rise for Climate Jobs, and Justice” events in the US highlighted the need for real climate leadership in the face of intensifying climate impacts and the ongoing assault on climate and communities from the Trump Administration. The actions took place just days before the Global Climate Action Summit in California, demanding a phase-out of fossil fuel extraction and a just transition to a 100% renewable energy economy. Event organizers emphasized community-led solutions, starting in places most impacted by pollution and climate change.

In Oregon, frontline communities have endorsed an intersectional climate justice platform: we oppose construction of fossil fuel infrastructure, we oppose hateful policies like Measure 105, and we support frontline leaders developing solutions that change the rules and drawdown wealth and power, like the Portland Clean Energy Fund. Across the country, and around the world, our communities will Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice and we will Rise for Climate Action--aimed at communicating to global and local leaders that a strong US climate movement exists and that the time has come to hold our leaders accountable.

Art build for the Clean Energy march - Sane Energy Arts team were invited to make art for the inFRACKstructure contingent for the March For a Clean Energy Revolution. We have spent many hours having listening sessions from our grassroots colleagues on what messaging needs to be highlighted. Similar to our 50 foot United States of Fracking banner, we worked with legendary graphic novelist Seth Tobocman again to bring to life the story to life in a 13 part piece of art that will be carried high above the march to tell the story of fracking.
