Constraction version of the famous Fright Knight. This is my first time using third party elements in a moc and they do wonders for the color scheme. His eyes, sword, and some other areas are gobricks. The legs are rough compared to the rest of the figure so in future I'll go for a more system based approach.

Oh hey, it's been a while.

I'm tinkering with a couple of mocs and ideas right now. One of them was further modifications to The Duchess. I've found using gobricks has been really useful to find parts that I need which Lego hasn't made in a specific colour. I guess it's not very purist of me. But sometimes you just have to adapt to suit your own preferences.

But here we are. The Duchess now has a more solid colour scheme, originally I wanted all the grey elements to be silver. But sadly gobricks doesn't produce parts in the metallic silver I wanted (the silver they use for modern lightsaber hilts).

But I think the grey works well, it's not too distracting.

While I don't usually aim to recreate my digital models in real life, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that most recolors needed for my 2020 model actually existed! I was able to build this guy using various Webrick and Gobrick pieces

70434: Supernatural Race Car (Redux)

New from LEGO HIDDEN SIDE!

The ghosts are on the loose and only you can stop them!

You can build the Supernatural Race Car!

Prepare Dr. Vaughn Geist!

And race off onto the haunted streets of Newbury!

First things first, this build is based heavily on @aesthetics.workshop_ 's amazing revamp of the Supernatural Race Car. I really enjoyed seeing the progress pictures for it and have long since wanted to build my own version at the same Town/Minifig scale.

It was fun working at such a small size. And a lot of techniques I used for my biplane mocs were transferred into the shaping for the car.

It also gave me an excuse to use some pieces I bought from gobricks and webrick too.

Better pictures to follow next week. Remember the nose design in bright light blue this album (and design) started with? Well, this is the end result. It also proof that my ACE line is buildable. All decals are home made. This

one is actually not buildable in genuine Lego, some parts are not available in that blue but it’s possible to get them at Gobricks. That’s also the reason this one isn’t going on my Rebrickable, Gobricks will have the exclusive rights to sell this as a set. Only thing that is left to do is update the instructions pdf for it to include the sticker placement

During a brief stint in Washington D.C. in 2023, I spent the better part of a summer evening exploring the grounds of Capitol Hill. Few landscapes invite as much inquiry along winding paths paired with plenty of moments for quiet introspection on marble benches; all in picturesque view of the Capitol dome. These on-site experiences are exactly the form of anecdotal justification I seek when considering whether to recreate such monumental places in the first place.

In tackling any work of such storied precedence as the US Capitol, I always seek to expand the conversation beyond existing works in the medium of plastic bricks. While the consistent 1:650 scale among my works has always ensured some level of originality, it is no guarantee of further insight that cannot already be gleaned from existing works by other artists. With this in mind, I set out to capture the full 100-acre site currently maintained by The Architect of the Capitol. What's more, the diorama depicts a particular time of year - specifically late March to early April - as illustrated by the iconic presence of hundreds of cherry blossoms rendered in two shades of light pink.

The diorama starts downhill at the trapezoidal Capitol Reflecting Pool, with the Grant Memorial taking pride of place along its eastern edge and the US Botanic Garden across the street to the south. The diorama expands from there, capturing the radiating pathways meandering uphill, as designed by Frederick Law Olmsted within the parcels laid out in the city plan by Pierre Charles L'Enfant. The piece culminates with the widely imitated US Capitol Building, perched atop a plinth projecting from the Capitol Visitor Center on the opposite side.

Topping everything off is a custom-made representation of the Statue of Freedom (as designed by Thomas Crawford), steadfastly overlooking the National Mall from atop the dome. The statue was designed in collaboration with BigKidBrix and was sized comparably to the minifigure statuette / trophy element.

The piece was designed over the course of about two months: first in December 2023 through January 2024, paused during the build-out of SPQR - Phase II, then resumed between March and April. The build-out lasted from July through August and was completed by September. The piece will soon be added to my personal gallery of works, now available for touring exhibitions.

When LEGO produced set 40448 based on a user's design which used binoculars this "illegal" way, you'd think LEGO would have fixed the mold instead of changing the design to not expose this flaw?

I built this fictional Chinese park based on memories of growing up in China in the 1990s. It has moving swan boats that run on a magnetized track by gobrick, which makes Lego-compatible magnetic track systems. The scene also showcases traditional architectural designs for the hexagonal pavilion and arched bridge set on a lake with lotus flowers blossoming in jade-colored water. A few nostalgic details are seen in the balloon vendor, cotton candy maker, and the popsicle seller.

This is my review of the Transformer Autobot Inferno MOC aka Firechief by Alex Jones, build with Webrick parts.

Total points = [91/100] 👌

I assume most of you will recognize this Generation 1 ("G1") Transformer Inferno, but especially people like me who grew up in the 1980s 😊.

You would think this could never work, so much details and moving parts in a relatively small build, but Alex has done it! This is where you see his background as a toy designer and being a Lego Master Germany winner.

If there would be something to complain, it would be the weak mid-section and some of the older and more expensive parts. Still, it holds up well in standing position and the ladder helps to balance the MOC, and but for many of the older parts, you can find a cheaper Lego alternatives.

Webrick is offering a bricks service for MOC builders. You upload the part list via their website and you instantly get the % of available bricks and their cost.

In the case of the Firechief, 16 parts were not available. I looked them up on BL or my own inventory. This makes a +96% hit rate on part list.

They mainly use GoBricks parts. The pieces are really good, super color consistency and only few scratches.

Featuring 588 bricks, this is my largest kit yet!

📜 Also included is a physical instructions manual: complete with step-by-step directions, introductions to the artist & the Pigna Vaticana, as well as plenty of historical and esoteric information on the Vatican Pinecone and the symbolism of pinecones more broadly.

⚠️ LIMITED AVAILABILITY: Only 50 of these kits will be available to Corinthian members over on my Patreon.

🚫️ Unlike previous kits, there will likely be NO GENERAL SALE for this kit, due to the ongoing tariff situation. It makes no difference whether they're 145% yesterday or 30% today, as the typical margins are less than that.

☝️ Therefore, Corinthian membership is - for now - the ONLY way to get one of these!

There was an attemp, at least.

Got the set a few months ago, but couldn't touch until a few weeks back. I'm honestly impressed by the deal of pieces you get here, so even if you don't build Brickheadz or even System, it's a totally recommended set, because most of the pieces it uses are wonderful to smooth surfaces or add detail in BIONICLE MOCs.

For Brickheadz building it gives a lot of options, but problem is, people like me who usually wear black or grey would have a very hard time to GoBrick themselves. This was the best attempt I had to get a Brickheadz version of me, and honestly couldn't have been done without that sticker.

Some notes:

- My hair is considerably darker.

- The glasses are way thinner (Brickhead Dumbledore eyes would be a better choice).

- The hat's wing is quite wider.

- Summer outfit. Not my favourite, but one I use regularly.

No background because I'm still in Madrid. But here you have a back shot if you are interested on it!

What could be a more monumental way of commemorating the 2,777th anniversary of the Founding of Rome than by debuting Phase II of my SPQR diorama?

With Phase II now successfully added, the diorama grows to roughly 211,000 individual plastic bricks and represents several thousand hours of research, design and build time executed over two-and-a-half years!

A smile would belie the resolute burden of committing to recreating the entire Eternal City over many years, but I'm grateful to be tempered by a constant knowing that so many are paying close attention to this impossible overview; which 1 million fourth century inhabitants never knew themselves, and one which I can only hope to faithfully represent at this scale and in these media for millions to learn from today.

That which is done well enough, is done quickly enough. Festina lente.

Loosely inspired by an unused concept art for Blade Runner 2049 by George Hull.

Ended up looking a bit Star Warsy.

A previous version (with no gun turret) had been sitting on my desk for 2 years, decided to revamp it using today's parts.

LEGO + other brands (Sembo, Wange, Gobricks)

This skyscraper never goes out of style! 🇹🇼

I've always admired Taipei 101 from afar, but never seriously considered designing it until about ten days ago. The unique colors and tapered profile made this a worthy challenge. So I struck while the inspiration was fresh, and even ended up designing a brand new pair of wedge plates to make it all work in the end!

Design Insights XLVII

The Temple of Bonus Eventus, as the name implies, is typically a bit of a 'bonus feature' when it comes to reconstructions of the ancient city of Rome. Dedicated to the agricultural god of "Good Outcomes," the temple and surrounding portico likely replaced the Stagnum Agrippæ, a large open-air reservoir in the center of the Campus Martius. Evidence of this later temple's location is relatively scant, but its existence is attested to in several fourth century sources. What's more is that Bonus Eventus was typically paired with Lympha, a goddess who influenced water supply. In this choose-your-own-adventure timeline, I sided with the theory that the obsolete reservoir might have been replaced by a temple with whose deity the former site's had typically been paired.

Similarly, remains of the Odeum of Domitian have never been excavated. Unlike the Roman theatres where stage dramas were acted out, odea were reserved for more niche performances such as singing recitals, poetry recitation and musical performances. They were notably smaller than theatres as well, and often further distinguished by the presence of permanent roofing, rather than fabric velaria. It's anyone's guess whether the Odeum of Domitian boasted such structural features, but absence of evidence must never be mistaken for evidence of absence.

This general rule of thumb encapsulates the well-founded, yet cautiously skeptical spirit with which we will explore the Temple of Bonus Eventus and the Odeum of Domitian.

When it comes to landmarks, it doesn't get more instantly recognizable than the cascading shells of Sydney Opera House!

Like sails on the water, the opera house boasts dramatic visibility from all sides, jutting out into the harbor on Bennelong Point in Sydney.

Coming soon to my gallery, the Pritzker Prize-winning Sydney Opera House, designed by Jørn Utzon and formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973.

The 1:650 piece was designed on commission at roughly the same scale as the rest of my oeuvre, and will consist of more than 6,000 bricks when completed.

For the entirety of my formative architectural years, Taipei 101 had hovered within the list of top-ten tallest buildings in the world. I fondly recall designing an assortment of digital skyscrapers in the OG Lego design software, LEGO Digital Designer, some time in 2008 before I had settled on a scale of 1:650. My budding interest in architecture manifested in a fascination with tall buildings from around the world, and I distinctly remember iterating a small Taipei 101 alongside Willis Tower and others in a now-long-lost file. Lost, but not forgotten.

This hypothetical project always represented what I knew would be a formidable challenge. Since settling on a scale of 1:650 in 2009, the primary limiting factors in recreating this skyscraper were the inward and outward tapers of the tower façade as well as the unique blue-green color of its curtain wall; both of which could not quite translate well enough to existing elements. As it turns out, these limiting factors may have largely been self-imposed, as I resorted to creating my own unique elements shortly after beginning design efforts in earnest last year.

Don't miss this all-new DESIGN Insights post highlighting the digital design of my latest piece depicting Taipei 101.
