Girls Who Code Club educates, inspires, and equips girls in grades 6-12 with the skills and resources needed to pursue opportunities in computing fields. This program was made possible through support from the City of Bowie and instruction from the Bowie State University’s Women in Computing organization. Imani McLaurin, a sophomore majoring in Computer Science at Bowie State University, led the first session.

On August 18, 2016, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul delivered the keynote address at the Girls Who Code graduation in Manhattan.

“As a national leader in the innovation workforce, New York State like never before is full of opportunities for women with backgrounds and degrees in science, technology, math and engineering,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. “By 2018, the United States is predicted to have a deficit of 2.4 million STEM workers. Girls Who Code opens the door to innovation at its best. By encouraging an interest in STEM early-on, they are empowering young women to define the future of their generation and this State.”
