California Ground Squirrel barking an alarm call. Most the wildlife that I see around my property take their cues from them. One alarm call will send the squirrels and song birds diving for cover. Even birds as large as the Wild Turkey will pause and take a careful look around. Only the Crows and Ravens seem to ignore the call

One of my favorite winter visitors. As soon as they arrive at my house 2020' I know my favorite Forest Service roads in the Cascades 5000' - 6000' are snowed in for the winter. They usually show up 12 - 24 hours before the snow flies. Natures little weather forecasters.

Oh boy, they're watching. Now I've got to nail this landing.
A pair on male Acorn Woodpeckers appear to be judging the other's landing. The one in the middle could likely be studying his techniques as he is only about a week out of the nest. The best way (other than awkwardness) to distinguish an immature one is the blue eyes. Only when they reach maturity do they develop their iconic bright yellow eyes.
They seem completely at ease no matter what position they perch.

Imagine my surprise when this Wild Turkey Tom (oddly enough named Tom) informed me of his desire to break into modeling and asked me if I could do a head shot for him. This was the best I could do on short notice. He's still waiting for a reply for GQ magazine....
