Snowy Shortoff - SHARE IT IF YOU LIKE IT!

I had a great time exploring the areas around Linville Gorge during the second snow of 2015! I had the distinct pleasure of meeting some great new four-wheelin' friends at Wiseman's View, and they were kind enough to ride with me down the rest of old NC 105. Along the way, we stopped a few times to take in the beautiful views of the snow-covered Linville Gorge and were treated to this view of Shortoff Mountain at the south end of the gorge. You can see Lake James in the distance as it meets the Linville River as it exits the gorge. It is such a wild and wonderful area of North Carolina and we are so blessed to have such a beautiful natural playground in our backyard! #shortoff #shortoffmountain #linvillegorge #linvilleriver #winter #snow #snowcoveredmountain #cathyandersonphoto #westernNC #blueridgemountains #appalachianmountains #wildernessarea #wilderness #wildernessphotography #NCmountains #visitnc #ourstatemag #neverstopexploring #getoutstayout #themountainiscalling #natgeolandscape #beautifuldestinations #greatshotz #thegreatoutdoors #wonderful_places #keepitwild #letsexplore #exploremore #letsgosomewhere

Cape Hatteras Milky Way - FEEL FREE TO SHARE!

One of my favorite memories of my dad is his declaration that he was strong enough to cart his little girl (that’s me!) all the way up the 268 steps of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The Outer Banks was always one of his favorite getaways, and I’ve adopted it as one of my second homes.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is steeped in history and has become a national icon, highly recognizable to coastal enthusiasts throughout the country. It’s black and white spiral pattern is iconic on the barrier islands and has stood at its current location since 1999. It had to be moved from its original location near the surf because the ocean had done so much erosion damage to the beach and its foundation. The lighthouse move has been deemed one of the greatest engineering feats of its time, because engineers were trusted with moving the tallest brick lighthouse structure in the USA over 1500 feet from its original location along the shoreline. The current lighthouse (the second version) was originally built in 1871 and stands 210 feet tall. It watches over an area of the North Carolina coast called Diamond Shoals, the resting place for many shipwrecks throughout the years. The area is infamously known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” because the treacherous waters sank so many ships.

Lighthouses shine at night, but many people haven’t seen this beautiful building at night under the stars. Check out this photos of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at night as the Milky Way floats through a sky full of stars.
