Our pet German Shepherd enjoying a good book.

Chewing on a stick as the snow begins to fall.

Shadow, a German Shepherd which I selected, trained and occasionally looked after for his master (later my friend) had to be put down due to incurable spinal and neurological problems. A part of me died with him as he considered me a member of his pack and I also considered him, in part, as my dog. Whenever I could, I'd take him out for a hike in the woods with my two dogs Litchi and Will.

I apologize for originally misleading some viewers into believing he was my GS.

Going through that chewing phase. I repaired his bed, which is still holding him for now! The original bed lasted about a week before he chewed it to shreds! Lucky he is cute and lovable!

One of his places. Shepherds do lots of chillin!

New Forest National Park, UK

We had another beautiful sunshiny day yesterday. It was 20F in the morning but warmed up to 40 later in the day.

Otto was sitting and just soaking in the sun on his face while I was photographing birds and I had to take his photo.

~ Jaxx and his biggest #Joy! . . .

his very favorite & most important thing in his life,

his ball . . .chasing it . . .bringing it back . .

rinse & repeat, he never gets tired of it. . .

[wish we could say the same]

it's very joyful for us to see him so happy!

~ backstory . .

jaxx was chasing his ball over the hill from where i was standing, when i noticed just his tail, i wanted to get a picture of his tail sticking out from the hill, but by the time i got the camera ready his face popped out from behind . . .glad i caught this one, he was quickly on the move towards me right after i took it . . . another fleeting moment captured! :)

Simcha is ready and waiting for our game of chase to begin.

Greetings on our walk

Syrra our 8 year almost 9 year old German Shepherd

When my wife, Sammy, and I were first married, we lived in Bloomington, Indiana, where I was attending graduate school at I.U. under a teaching assistantship. Our combined total annual income was $3,600 (this was 1960), but, broke though we always were, we nevertheless laid out 75 of those scarce dollars as a 6-month anniversary present for Romair, our first of three German shepherds (Romair is a combination of ROger and MAIRi, Sammy’s real name). The only problem was there were 10,000 chickens on Sammy’s parent’s farm back in Massachusetts, and we had some concern that Romair might not mix too well with them when we returned for a visit. So, we bought two baby chicks, with the intent of convincing Romair there was more to chickens than their nutritional value, and, as you can see here, our scheme worked. And, yes, that is spaghetti in the dog bowl…

I scanned this slide back when I had a mediocre scanner and less than mediocre scanning skills, and I haven’t been able to find the slide again to rescan it, so it took a fair amount of Photoshopping to resuscitate it enough to make it even minimally Flickr worthy.

To be chasing seagulls....

Simcha is a creature of the forest and prefers animals to people.

Looks for shade in the summer heat. Love my pup!
