Around 1700, country estates for several noblemen were established in the former flood plain of the river Leine. In 1726, the Herrenhäuser Allee (Herrenhausen alley) was planted just through the gardens, connecting Hanover with the royal palace and gardens of Herrenhausen in the boroughs of the city; it is almost exactly one geographical mile (1.85 km) long, and consists of four rows of lime trees.

Von 1828 bis 1843 wurde der Park in einen Englischen Landschaftspark umgebaut. Man ließ die Wasserläufe der ehemaligen einzelnen Gärten zu Teichen vergrößern. Der umgebaute Park wurde nach Georg IV. von Hannover in Georgengarten umbenannt. Von 1835 bis 1841 zeichnete der Gartenmeister Christian Schaumburg für die Umgestaltung verantwortlich. In dieser Zeit entstand 1840 die Augustenbrücke nach Plänen von Laves.
Taken in the Georgengarten Hannover. From 1828 to 1843 the park was converted into an English landscape park. The watercourses of the former individual gardens were turned into ponds. The rebuilt park was renamed Georgengarten after George IV of Hanover. From 1835 to 1841 the garden master Christian Schaumburg was responsible for the redesign. In 1840 the Augusten Bridge was built according to plans by Laves.
