A White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) fawn looks affectionately to its mother.
It is easy for many to think of wildlife as generally mindless - operating only on instinct. I don't share that sentiment, however, and believe that many species, particularly mammals, experience, in their own way, most of the same emotions that we do. The scale may be different, as our emotions have evolved to fit various needs related to our survival and reproduction, but they are most certainly there.
Giants come in all shapes and forms, Simba is one of those gentle giants who doesn't know his own strength yet, but is a loving companion all the same, and a great dog to photograph !!
There is a farm on Long Island that has these beautiful and gentle Highland cattle...
This big boy has been around for close to 20 years...
sadly, almost at the end of his life span...
Highland Cattle have a long life span of around 20 years. They can easily sustain cold winters with their double coat of hair, and they guard themselves against predators using their horns. As they always move in a group, predators cannot attack them quickly.

It's a lovely sunny day today so I'll be off volunteering as usual. The cold sunny spell is over now and we are in changeable weather. Gentle is by Low, and is fine for this sunny shot of Southerndown Cliffs.
He may look fierce, (most Siberian Huskies do), but it sure gave me a mellow vibe as I walked by and then stopped for a couple minutes to capture its regal beauty. It never barked, threatened, or tried to slink away. Just a perfect model, calm and sweet, just as if we were best friends :)
I found it resting camly in the backyard of a home two blocks from mine. I have walked this particular route many times and have never seen it there. So either I'm not very observant (!) or it's fairly new to the home.
I am in love with its blue eyes, its striking face, and beautiful coat. And its personality!

A gentle touch is all it took for this shy timid dog to become friends. He's a beautiful Siberian Husky rescued from somewhere in the states as we had learned from his owner.
