Ghent is a city and a municipality in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is the capital and largest city of the East Flanders province, and the third largest in the country, exceeded in size only by Brussels and Antwerp. It is a port and university city.

The city originally started as a settlement at the confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Leie and in the Late Middle Ages became one of the largest and richest cities of northern Europe, with some 50,000 people in 1300.

Ketelvest Gent

Reflections /Red .. Rood en spiegeling

The little island of Runde was one of my destinations in Norway. It is well known for its large Puffin colony but also home to several thousands of Gannets who were starting to breed on the steep rocks. And separate from these birds there were many other bird species so it was a very enjoyable place to spend a few days.

It took me quite some tries to get a few decent shots of Gannets who were circling around the cliffs. while I was standing at ca 200 meters above sea level. Most of the time they were deep down, so my autofocus was continously in error on what to focus on, the sea with all its moving waves or some fast moving birds everywhere.

This little group of Gannets was riding on the wind, and therefor they were hanging around.

The Gravensteen (Dutch; literally "Castle of the Counts") is a medieval castle at Ghent, East Flanders in Belgium. The current castle dates from 1180 and was the residence of the Counts of Flanders until 1353. It was subsequently re-purposed as a court, prison, mint, and even as a cotton factory. It was restored over 1893–1903 and is now a museum and a major landmark in the city
