New parallel kit for my Honda EU2000i generators.
The old one was simpler and cheaper. But to work with the power protection in the new camper, the ground and neutral need to be tied together. The generators leave the ground floating and the power protector does not like that. Wth the old one I would have to leave a hot plug lying around.
This one allows the cables to the generator to be disconnected. I used L5-20R receptacles, which is the same as what is on the generator. I made two cables with L5-20P plugs on either end. This will be hard for someone to accidently plug into a 15A outlet.
I would have used 15A twist lock connectors on the parallelizer, but they were quite a bit more expensive.

This is the "pump end" on a 3000 horsepower ship engine. In the opposite end we have the generator. This ship is "diesel electric" meaning that the diesel engines (we got 4 similar engines) job is to drive a generator at a speed of 720 rpm. We are then able to adjust the amount of available power due to weather conditions and other reasons we may have for adjusting the amount of available power. This means that when the weather is nice, and we are in DP operation on the field, we can run the ship very easily with two generators available. We are normaly able to stay on DP in calm weather using no more than around 1200 kW to maintain position. The two running generators are capable of an output around 4600 kW if it is necessary (if wind suddenly hit the vessel, or if something happen meaning we have to get out of the area quick). Running two generators we still have two generators in stand by, in case something happens with one of the running engines and we need to stop it for some reason.
The propulsion of all thrusters are taken care of by means of electric motors, taking power from the main switchboard, fed from the generators driven by the diesel engines.
That's it... more or less... ;-)
What all these numbers are for? Well, with three engines running (the optimal when we steam ashore) we usualy use an output of 6000 kW. Which means that during the eight hours we use from Kirkwall to the field west of Shetland, we use about 48 000 kWh. That's well over twice the amount of electrical power any of you will ever use in your house in one year...
