This is one of the turbines sitting atop its delivery truck. It’s 63 tons and the truck has 8 sets of wheels along each of its axels. The package on the back is the control mechanism. Southern 630's steam-powered generator (for the lights).

Southern Railway 630 is a steam locomotive built in 1904 by the American Locomotive Company (Richmond Works) for the Southern Railway. It is a 2-8-0 Consolidation of Southern's Ks-1 class.
The 630 was used on Southern until her retirement in 1952. December of that year, the 630 and sister locomotive, 722, were purchased by the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad and numbered 207 and 208 appropriately. In December 1967, both locomotives were traded back to the Southern for use in their Steam Program and re-given their former identities in return for a pair of former Central of Georgia Alco RS3's. The locomotives headed main line excursion trains over the entire Southern system until the 1983 when both were retired again from the Southern in lieu of larger power. They both were leased to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. 722 was later donated by Southern's successor NS to the City of Asheville, NC. TVRM ran the 630 until 1989 when she was yet again retired. 630 was donated to TVRM in 1998 by NS. That same year, the 630 entered TVRM's restoration shop (now Soule Shops) and has since been under restoration. It is one of the most thorough restorations that has been done in the U.S. for many years, including frame work and a complete running gear overhaul. As of March 2011, 630 is once again operational and is currently undergoing test runs.

Electronic art is powered art. Plugging into the grid is like growing a systemic appendage - a phantom limb - that makes complicit in a host of activities never seen nor mentioned in work descriptions or catalogues. What would electronic art veer toward if we explicitly freed it from this burden?
For the "Art Generator" project, I have constructed a human-powered generator, and asked electronic artists to create pieces to consume the generated electricity. These pieces will be created, added, removed and interconnected over the duration of the show, as an ecosystem of electron-using creative work and workers. Power is only available, that is, the art is only generated, when an interested interlocutor puts their own energy into the pieces.

I took this shot while waiting for 40 minutes for a train to actually stop at my station this morning. Some people stared at me as if I was a bit crazy while I was crouching down to get a better angle, but I don't care... I needed to keep myself occupied so as not lash out at anyone and, besides, it was too cold to knit.
Anywho, I worked on this photo quite a bit in order to bring out the detail on the pipe. What ended up working best was to make a high-contrast black and white version of the original and run it through Pro HDR a few times as the dark version, combined with the original and then with the result of the previous run as the light version. I'm quite pleased with the results!
