The cooling tower and two smokestacks of a coal-fired power plant in Chaoyang, Beijing, owned by China Huaneng Group.

I visited this plant because it was installing an experimental post-combustion capture system (PCC) to extract CO2 for use in the production of carbonated beverages.

The R. L. Hearn Generating Station was the site of Canada's first 100 MW steam turbo-generator set. The station sits in what was once Ashbridge's Bay, a shallow marsh that was filled in with rubble from downtown construction sites from 1911 to 1950s. The station was officially opened on October 26, 1951 by Leslie Frost, Premier of Ontario .Now abandoned

The Chase Is On - An adult male Golden Eagle pursues a California Ground Squirrel after missing his initial strike.

I was fortunate to witness an amazing moment of natural history when a Golden Eagle dropped down on this squirrel and actually chased his prey down on foot in an attempt to catch it.

This is the first image of the sequence that I captured of the eagle generating momentum with his wings and lunging at the squirrel. Typically, I see Golden Eagles moving rather awkwardly on land but this individual moved with agility and purpose.

I have been photographing Golden Eagles since 2013 and spent countless hours watching them soar, hunt and rest. At last I managed to document a hunting sequence in the wild last Christmas Eve.

Species: Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) + California Ground Squirrel (Otospermophilus beecheyi)

Location: San Benito County, CA, USA

Equipment: Nikon D850 + 200-500mm f5.6 ED VR, Handheld

Settings: 1/1600s, ISO: 360, f/5.6, +0.3 EV

Some of you might remember my "The farmer's wife" photo from a few years ago taken in the basement at my cottage. It is in the first comment.

This is what I created .

A walk away from work, the perfect wind down

Covel Creek Falls, in Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington. Kind of a tricky shot with a drone, especially trying to get a longer exposure with the air turbulence generated by the waterfall itself. Access is by trail #228 from either NF 76 or NF 28.

This is a photo stack of 20 images to create this much depth in a macro photo. Each shot with a slightly different focus point. The camera is locked down and then it is slid forward by tiny, controlled movements of macro focus slider. The copper wire sculpture is all of about 2 inches tall. The flower in the background is only about 3 to 4 inches away from the wire structure with is sitting in a bucket of water to help finish the scene.

Its hard to set this all up and everything is very small movements and if you accidentally kick a tripod leg of a light stand, everything gets changed in a big way. It can be very frustrating to work like this, but this is the result when it all comes together.

Shot using a Tokina AT-X 90mm f2.5 Macro lens and a 25mm Canon FD extension tube.
