The great migration of the Winter Snow Goose has begun! This pair of Snow Geese seemed to be checking each other out. It is time to choose a mate and prepare for family life. Watching huge flocks of Snow Geese swirl down from the sky, amid a cacophony of honking, is a little like standing inside a snow globe.

Flock of geese in flight.

You stand there the snow geese suddenly flying overhead, the feeling like this 站在那里成千的雪雁突然凌空飛過,千軍萬馬感受如此

Canada Geese (Branta canadensis)

17 January 2018, Trittiford Mill Park, Birmingham

These sweet natured geese lived on a property where I rented a room for a few years.

Beautiful piece of wetland with a small river running through it, and a couple of waterfalls.

The owner died a few weeks ago. He used to talk about leaving the property to the Nature Conservancy. Don't know if that ever happened.

Canada geese waiting out the winter on the Bow River. Calgary Alberta, Canada.

Backlit, late in the day, and it is pretty clear one of them is the runt of the group. The size difference is pretty amazing, especially since it is almost erased in a few days.

Middle Creek PA, The snow geese came early this year, thousands of them flying overhead, captured this last weekend!

I came across this field full of snow geese and noticed that they were in rows !!!! Very orderly, I must say !! Actually, they had landed in the stubble of a harvested corn field and it is easier for them to navigate by staying in the corn rows !! Maxatawny Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

The annual spring migration of the snow geese, as they leave their winter homes on the Chesapeake Bay and head north to their summer breeding grounds in the arctic tundra. Their flight plan takes them along the Atlantic Flyway, and Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is one of their important stops along the way, where they rest and feed in the local farm fields. Witnessing this amazing migration is an annual event, something we look forward to witnessing every year, and this morning we were treated to approximately 90,000 of these beautiful geese.. People come from around the world to witness this spectacle. Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, Kleinfeltersville, Pennsylvania.

Brent goose - Branta bernicla

I love the sound of Brent Geese, they always sound so comical. They arrive on our shores in October and leave in March.

Seen here in the salt marshes of the Solent, Hampshire.

Info RSPB.

It is an Amber List species because of the important numbers found at just a few sites.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

The geese must be starting to nest, because they were chasing a pair of ducks away from their end of the pond!

Well.. things are looking up. The temperature soared to 20C yesterday and will be 21C today. There are only a couple of small patches of snow on our lawn. The Canon and I are becoming friends again .. still working on my technique!
