This is an 80s compilation that I bought new back in the day.
I had loved disco as a child, but that was before my adolescent record purchasing. So I had to discover disco all over again.
I'd been buying contemporary, post-disco dance music for years, but then came the "Hi-NRG" sound of the late 80s. (Stock, Aitken + Waterman) Plenty of those songs were covers of classic disco. Enough time had passed that people were willing to revisit it.
So that got me into scouring the world for old disco records. Which I found. Quite a few. I have many Donna Summer records, but the above really is quite a fabulous collection.
Now of course, we might all remember that Ms. Summer has had her 'issues' with the gay community, from icon to pariah to distant friend. She cool now, but it'll never be the same as it were.
At the time I bought this I remember it being a moral question - to buy or not to buy a Donna Summer record? I remember gay men preaching to me in my youth that I should never give my money to her. It was deemed okay to buy OLD records because the money didn't go to her. I bought this one at a used records store but it was basically new.
Let's just say her greatest performance as "Legend" will always be a sad disappointment. She really turned her back on her fans not just when they were down, but when they were DYING.
She recanted of course. Can't quite remember an apology. I have her book (she signed it for me in 2002 or 2003.) Haven't read it. Maybe I'll find an apology there. ???
She got the "Diva" thing down pat, though.
Forgive and move the fuck on, right?
"Inseparable in life, faith and even in death, Sergius and Bacchus were Christians, soldiers and possibly even gay lovers in the 3rd century."
They were from what is now Syria and it is in Syria that there presence is most keenly felt, with the Monastery of St Sergius and St Bacchus in Ma'aloula and the scene of St Sergius' martyrdom in Resafe. This is a series of photos looking at the spirit of the two saints in visible displays of man-to-man bonding and friendship still to be found in modern day Syria.

Yes, itโs true. Iโm a closet Abba fanโฆ and I always have been.
In fact, I am the only non-gay male Abba fan in England!
Although my Abba CDs are carefully hidden behind Fleetwood Mac, Shawn Colvin and the Clashโฆ Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Bjorn and Betty will always be my first choice.
:>)
Knowing me, knowing youโฆ aha.

The House where Joe Orton lived from 1960-67 and where he was murdered.
Second Floor, 25 Noel Road, London
John Kingsley "Joe" Orton (1 January 1933 โ 9 August 1967) was an English playwright and author. His public career was short but prolific, lasting from 1964 until his death three years later. During this brief period he shocked, outraged, and amused audiences with his scandalous black comedies. The adjective Ortonesque is sometimes used to refer to work characterised by a similarly dark yet farcical cynicism.
See 2 screenshots of Joe Orton outside 25 Noel Road in comments below.

this face belongs to Joe Dallesandro, leading actor of many Andy Warhol factory movies, directed by Paul Morrisey. There is an exhibition running at London's National Portrait Gallery www.npg.org.uk:8080/gayicons/index.htm I spotted this defaced poster in the Bank underground station.

There is a convent of St Sergius and St Bacchus in Ma'aloula with a number of representations and paintings of the two saints. I did my best to photograph them in the bad light conditions. The convent is especially interesting as the nuns will speak in Aramaic which is said to be the language used by Jesus Christ.
It is also in a lovely spot in the mountains, well wortyh a visit.
