The word "Navaratri" means nine nights in Sanskrit. During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of "Devi" are worshiped. men women & children do dance called "garba" or "ras-garba" wearing typical Gujarati traditional clothes called "Chaniya-choli".

Garba is a traditional folk dance from Gujarat, celebrated with great enthusiasm during the festival of Navaratri. Performed in a circular formation around a central lamp or image of Goddess Durga, dancers move rhythmically to the beat of dhol and traditional songs.

 

The shopkeepers selling traditional cloths get ready as markets get flooded with eager buyers.

And now for something completely different! My Missus goes to Gujarat in India four times a year for work, and the last time she was there was during Navratri. She was invited to a Garba dance festival and picked up this dress. I can't imagine she'd wear it again over here, so I thought I'd borrow it for myself

finishing 'sitra mata pooja' and related religious rituals, people gather around to play this 'garba'. for most of the people (even here in india), 'navratri festival' is nothing else but playing 'garba' (that too after the dark).
