Gandalf is a beach acquaintance. He is a 12-year-old Border Collie whose mission in life is to keep track of balls. He's been suffering from epilepsy for some years and the medication for it messes a little with his balance and coordination - but he just finds ways to compensate and doesn't let anything keep him from his mission.
He completely ignores Blanca, which is okay because the more a dog is eager to meet her, the snappier she tends to get. Gandalf is the only dog we encounter on the beach where I can leave Blanca off leash and don't worry she'll get aggressive.
And, yes, I do believe he is named for the character from Lord of the Rings.

A little photo project for a rainy day - which today was! Bought some coloured paper so that I could make a hole in it and try and coax the cats to peak through it. It was easier said then done! As is always typical with our two male cats the best lure was food. Still if it wasn't for my wife helping out (herding cats isn't easy) it would have been impossible to get this shot!

Gandalf rides to Minas Tirith with Pippin in order to distract Sauron from Frodo and Sam to give them more time. This scene takes place in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as Gandalf approaches the White City with Pippin. Minas Tirith is Gondor's main city and stronghold.
I created Minas Tirith and the surrounding landscape at micro scale with Gandalf at the front for some perspective just like was used throughout the films. My favorite part building this was trying to match all the details throughout the city as close as I could. I am particularly happy with the courtyard and the little white tree!
Krissy got this pic at GenCon, the big gaming convention in Indy. He is cosplaying Gandalf. He's a service dog called a "sniffing" dog, who sniffs out food allergies for his owner. How cool is that? His Instagram is gandog19 if you want to check him out : D
